The 34-year-old climbing specialist, nicknamed "The Pirate", won the 1998 Tour de France and Giro d'Italia.

yes very sad new el pirata died too young. but after he was caught for cheating (in the giro in 2000 or 2001or in the tour de france), his mental went down and he was very sad. he even went to a psychiatric hospital.

sad end for a great cyclist.
