Maricopa County Superior Court to review Sheriff Joe’s takeover of computer system

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office sent more than a dozen officers to county computer rooms in its Wednesday raids and takeover of a computer system that interlinks police and court agencies.

I've loved the way Sheriff Joe Arpaio has operated for many years. First he puts prisoners in a tent city, makes them wear pink underwear and feeds them on 89 cents a day.

Now he's started a hostile takeover of an Integrated Criminal Justice Information System by sending in his deputies and running off the staff. I don't know how I should feel about this. It seems the legal channels he was trying to use to get control of the system were not working and he just decided to take over by force.

Not particularly inspiring but the voters keep electing him and I guess that's a measure of their approval. I'm going to keep an eye on this case.

I saw a documentary about hime once. He didn't look like the most stable person and now this. He can't get what he wants through legal channels so he basically throws a hissy fit like a little child and plans and executes a hostile takeover, just great. How is it even possible for someone like him to become sheriff?

And just a question to help me understand. Is a sheriff like a completely independent law enforcement entity? I mean, he has to answer to somebody doesn't he? Can't the county just fire his ass?

He is an "elected" sheriff.Which explains a lot of what he does.

Yes and you would prefer a more weak liberal sheriff, we already know that. He uses force even if it is not the best method, he wants results and he doesn't want scum polluting his county. The citizens of the county where Arpaio lives want zero tolerance with criminals and care for their safety. If the people that are running the court are too kind and not much efficient against convicted criminals nor much cooperative with Arpaio, I can understand his reaction.

When no one else will actually enforce the laws (cough... Feds... cough...), I guess it's hard to throw stones at a guy who's actually trying.

Or maybe it's easy for some people...:dunno:
