Mechanical/ HVAC question for those in the know

Subject: Bryant 560 Condenser (Central Air Conditioner)

Thermostat does not operate the condenser whatsoever, not a peep or hum and definitely no fan.

Condenser fan will operate as normal when unit relay switch is manually
depressed, but shuts down immediately upon release... anything?

Thanks

Why save the world, when you can rule it?
1: Take machine into garden.
2: Set fire to machine.
3: Drink Vodka and watch machine burn.
4: Inhale burning machine fumes deeply.

Are you thinking you can fix this yourself? Do yourself a big favor and call a professional in my friend. HVAC issues require a licensed pro to figure out.

Sure, no guts no glory! I've rebuilt Holley carbs, a 327 Chevy, replaced tons of clutches on both import and domestic autos, ditto for brakes, I have a background in all facets of residential construction, both new and refurbish, nope, I'ma nota scared!

The important thing is to know how far oneself can or should go before doing irreparable damage or not being to be reassemble everything back into it's proper place.;)

Upon reading this, I think of the sign at my mechanic's shop:

Labor Rates

We fix it: $50 per hour.
You bring it to us after you've tried to fix it: $125 per hour.
You stand behind us and tell us how to fix it, after you've tried to fix it: you don't wanna know.

Yes, I repair electric motors and it is so annoying when you get one in where the customer tried to repair it themselves or they disassembled the thing and want you to find out what was wrong with it. Usually they'll screw it up so bad that it'll cost them more to repair than if they had just left it alone and brought it in to us.

Ya gotta love it when guys connect about a dozen 2 prong 16 & 18 gauge extension cords together for a total of... say... 150- 180' between the power source and a 10+ Amp motor. :1orglaugh

Yea, in my earlier days I used to R&R electric motors on commercial floor maintenance equipment, DC brushless as well as brush motors, including gearbox work on 300 rpm Clarke, Dayton, NSS etc. scrubbers.

Just a wild guess here but if the thermostat doesn't activate the condenser have you thought to replace the thermostat? :drool1:

This is my first post so feel free to welcome me :) :hatsoff:

If that works, you realize that he's NEVER going to admit it, right? :D
