Men's Razors

AFA

I'm too lazy to set a usertitle.
I know. I discovered that the new heads cost about as much as the razor itself, so I just went ahead and got a new razor.

Mine cost $119 in 1994-5? and that was a good price. I bought a cheaper cordless for someone for $80. I think the newest ones are pushing $200. Heads are about $30, and I got batteries on the cheap for $15. I replaced the heads for the second time, and probably need to get batteries done too. I went back to blades with a mirror in the shower and that works just as well.

Norelco is the best, but the motorcycle shaving mirror makes me look cool, and we all know that's important to me.

You looking at me?
I have used Gillette Mach 3 and Fusion razors. I also use a Philips HQ7140 razor as well.

My face gets irritated when wet shaving, plus I often get small cuts, even though I don't press hard, etc. Its also not good when I still have crappy skin from my teenage days, making daily wet shaving detrimental. The head packs are way too expensive as well.

I got the Philips several months ago. Its my first electric shaver. That also irritated my skin at first. To get around that, I shave in short bursts not allowing the shaving heads to run hot against my skin. So at least I can use it every day.

I find that it can cut almost as good as a wet shave; it shaves better on my top lip but worse on the neck (not that I find my neck easy to shave whichever way). But it does miss hairs and can't really handle more than one day's growth, so sometimes I wet shave when I have several days of stubble.

Basically, I'm screwed both ways.

I hope, one day, to get what looks like the daddy shaver of them all: a Philips RQ1095.

I somehow ended up with 3 electric razors. Two Norelcos and a Remington. I've had the Remington for 8 years, though I don't use it much anymore. One Norelco I inherited from my late uncle and is 5 years old. The other is 2 years old. I've never changed anything on any of them and they work fine. It's probably because my facial hair is not that coarse. I shave every couple weeks, and if the hair is getting too long, I trim it with my hair clipper without the guard on first to make it easier on the razors.

My hand is my best friend!
I use a the battery powered Gilette Fusion Phantom, and believe it or not but there is a difference between the vibrating razor and the regular one. The vibrations actually make your face smoother. Unfortunately the replacement razors cost more than the shaving tool.

Would you hit it?
I'm with AFA... Norelco for the last 7 years and no intention of ever getting anything else.

My ex worked in a salon she got me into straight razors,it takes a lot of practice to master but once you get it down its the best shave ever.
Just be careful you don't slice your throat. ;)

Do I look normal to you?
Gillette Mach 3 Turbo - the one with the small vibrating motor in the handle. Really shaves smooth.

One of the worst things about them is constantly maintaining them and keeping them sharp. I'm sure they are much cheaper than continually buying overpriced blades on the other hand.

As long as you use the strop to keep it sharp each time you use it, they are great.
You just have to maintain the blades with mineral oil and store them correctly so they don't corrode. But it is cheaper in the long run. :)

It's a matter of practice. The more you do it, the easier and faster it gets. IMHO, it's no real effort... than say driving manual transmission.

I use a straight razor myself.

The best part of a straight razor is that you get to choose/decide the angle, thus deciding how close you want your shave to be.

Ain't nothing that can compare to having a wet shave with a straight razor.... :)

cheap offbrand two blade disposable razors from Wal-Mart. The blue ones you get five for a dollar and you throw away the entire razor.

If you wish to live wisely, ignore sayings including this one.
I've been using a Schick Quatro for some time now.

I am poor. I use two bladed razors, and it takes two of those to do the job.
