Dude...the SLR is a limited production, supercharged V8 Mercedes powered by AMG that gets to 60 MPH in under 4 seconds.....it pretty much doesn't matter what it looks like.

I was pretty much addressing namreg's opinion/criticism of the SLR...

I'm going to cum when I get my Freeones T-shirt!
I'm not a fan of the body style at all. The front looks awful IMHO.

yes it matters. a supercar should make you feel super, and the SLR just makes me say 'meh'. and it's not all that limited either, they have to make all sorts of special editions to sell enough cars.

My bad :hatsoff:

No. My bad...I should have grabbed the quote....

Any car can make a person feel "super" depending on their perspective....Appx 500 per year is fairly limited production.

When you pay exotic car money I believe you should want an exotic car look...the car should be an attention grabber. Despite what varying opinions are of it...the SLR is an attention grabber.

I had a S600 once (not exotic but not your run of the mill car either) and I was at one of my favorite strip clubs outside talking on my phone. There was another guy that frequented the place who I knew and he had just gotten an S500.

Of course he parked in the front reserved parking too as proud as a peacock. Comes up to me while I'm on the phone asking me what did I think (grinning from ear to ear)..I responding with, "Oh, you got yourself the '500 huh"? He replies, "yeah, just like the one you have." I said, "Well (blah, blah, blah), it may look like mine but it's not just like mine....I have a 600." He asks, "What's the difference?" I said, "other the speed and quickness...another 4 cylinders and $50-60K." Obviously he didn't know much about Mercedes even after having just bought one..(shameful IMO but to each his own) because he was pretty dumbfound at that revelation.

Point is for me, I didn't care much that other than a few badges my car didn't look all that different from a version that cost 10s of thousands less than mine.

However, some people care about that difference though...The SLR more than looks the part.

I agree fantastic car, but never grabbed the ultra high end market very well. If you want one there are new ones on the dealership lot and a poor seller..

The SLS is a much better fit with the help of AMG, a great modern take on a classic look!

so you don't care about the car at all, only about the badge?

No...you misinterpreted what I said. I had a S600...I personally didn't care that even though it was quite different from an S500...that it didn't look noticeably different than an S500 other than a few minor, exterior appointments like the S600 and V12 badges.

I know what the car is and the difference and people who know what the V12 and S600 badges mean know the difference...I don't need it to have a radically different body just because I paid quite a bit more money for the difference under the body. That it's body wasn't radically different from a lesser model in the same class was unimportant to me.

However, some people want a radically different looking car when they pay radically different money.

My hand is my best friend!
The SLR McLaren is one of my fave cars and as Cartman said the huge Mercedes logo on the front of the SLS is kinda distractingly uncool. But Im sure it'll come out looking super sexy as a finished product.

Legzman

what the fuck you lookin at?
I've never cared for mercedes styling. The SLR was the only decent looking car they ever made. This one just looks like crap.

Here Zombie, Zombie, Zombie...
It seems retro, in tying together the original with the new. It's okay I guess.
