No. My bad...I should have grabbed the quote....
yes it matters. a supercar should make you feel super, and the SLR just makes me say 'meh'. and it's not all that limited either, they have to make all sorts of special editions to sell enough cars.
Any car can make a person feel "super" depending on their perspective....Appx 500 per year is fairly limited production.
When you pay exotic car money I believe you should want an exotic car look...the car should be an attention grabber. Despite what varying opinions are of it...the SLR is an attention grabber.
I had a S600 once (not exotic but not your run of the mill car either) and I was at one of my favorite strip clubs outside talking on my phone. There was another guy that frequented the place who I knew and he had just gotten an S500.
Of course he parked in the front reserved parking too as proud as a peacock. Comes up to me while I'm on the phone asking me what did I think (grinning from ear to ear)..I responding with, "Oh, you got yourself the '500 huh"? He replies, "yeah, just like the one you have." I said, "Well (blah, blah, blah), it may look like mine but it's not just like mine....I have a 600." He asks, "What's the difference?" I said, "other the speed and quickness...another 4 cylinders and $50-60K." Obviously he didn't know much about Mercedes even after having just bought one..(shameful IMO but to each his own) because he was pretty dumbfound at that revelation.
Point is for me, I didn't care much that other than a few badges my car didn't look all that different from a version that cost 10s of thousands less than mine.
However, some people care about that difference though...The SLR more than looks the part.
