Military: Sham marriages got Marines housing money

A lot of military marriages are started soley for the money.. Also a lot of women target military men simply because they know that they get more money for being married and the spouse can do as they please while the military member is away overseas or in the field.. Recruiters also push young couples who might not make the marriage leap for another 5+ years to get married before the service guy joins because "it's easier to stay together and better benefits"... That's at least what happened in my marriage. :dunno:

Also I grew up on Camp Pendleton, my step dad was a marine there, I can't understand why they would want to live off base?? Oceanside is super ghetto (not that I don't love it there) but on base housing is a wayyy better option IMO.. :dunno:

Don't forget the type of housing on base depends on your military grade. A private is going to get shit housing while a sgt major is going to get some of the nicer housing on base.

Yup - having a little rank had it's privileges :D

No wait - I started out in those shitty houses...... While the Air Force was light-years ahead of the Army when it came to housing, my first on-base house as an Airman in Minot North Dakota in 1979 was not near what I would have gotten had I wanted to live on base at Peterson AFB right before I retired.

Oh yeah, I know all about that, the housing they wanted to give my ex & I at Fort Eustis in Virginia when he first enlisted was terrible. I'm just saying having lived in Oceanside, any on post housing would be better than off post. From what I remember the houses/apartments off post are really run down and surrounded by a lot of shady people (at least the ones that you'd be able to afford with bah) I was just back visiting in Oceanside in march, for as run down of a town as it is, it's actually home to my favorite strip club "The Main Attraction" :D

I'm too lazy to set a usertitle.
The military could just either let anybody that lives together make people qualify for a similar benefit, or they could also eliminate the benefit for everybody and give everybody an adequate amount for housing based on their need.

With the exception of legal decisions that might need to be made for one another or notifying a spouse about info on the other spouse in the military I don't know why they are in the marriage business at all and differentiate people according to that.

People in the military do what they have to do to get by, the fact they were lesbos doesn't really change anything.
What do you mean do what you have to?? Last I checked, the military still pays you, gives you food to eat and a fucking place to sleep at night. The only thing you have to pay for is your extra unis and your own civis...Sure, you won't be staring on The Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous but if you live like you're on a military salary you shouldn't have to do anything but muster and your job and you'll 'get by'.

There were several married guys in my command that I knew and not a fucking one of them were married specifically for the additional BAQ. I didn't know of ANYONE stupid enough to get married just for the money. There were plenty of guys who shacked up with chicks off base but not one got married just for the money and definitely didn't try a scam like these bimbos tried to pull.

Did you last or did you get the boot or something for trying to scam the military too?

Again smells like You Might not have served.

:dunno: Wash your upper lip. What is that suppose to mean? You were just wrong and want to sound like you're right now???

Smells like you're some disgruntled OTH, BCD or DisH. You're 26? You were getting potty trained when I was serving in the military.:2 cents:

When I was in a friend of mine was married. He made so little that him and his wife qualified for food stamps. Thats fucked up is all I can say. We would buy milwaukees best light for $1.75 a 6 pack and a pack of cigerettes for $1.10 and then play risk all night long. I know pathetic, but when you only make $265 twice a month you dont have shit to spend. Now my second duty station was an overseas hardship duty station. I had to live on the economy. I made $2600 on the 1st and 15tgh of every month. Didnt mind that at all.

It's BAH. Get your acronyms right. Smells again like you never served. If you did you would have an idea how pointless this topic is because of the amount of people shamming marriages in the military. Oh and thanks for the clever comments you sound very smart.

I'll tell you right up front that I never served in the military. But I've been paying a lot in taxes since the mid 80's. So since I'm one of the ones whose paid your salary, I'll be the first to tell you that if you can't follow the rules (laws), then you don't belong in the military. You weren't drafted. You joined of your own free will. If the pay isn't high enough for you, why did you join? I assume you asked how much you'd be paid before you signed up?! If you didn't, there again, that's your problem... not the taxpayers'.

If I'm not happy with what I make working for corporation X, that doesn't give me the right to steal from them or defraud them.

:facepalm:Uh, when I was in it was BAQ (Basic Allowance for Quarters). It was changed to BAH years later.:2 cents:

Again, if you're an expert on the amount of people shamming marriages in the military then you are certainly more clever than I could ever hope to be and have much more time on your hands.

The only thing pointless is your input in this thread. I didn't know a single married couple when I served that was shamming their marriage. Even if they were, why the fuck would they tell me or anyone else about it?? Which begs the question, who was telling you about this?? Or were you someone committing fraud too?

Even if the main reason for the two people to get married was for the money it STILLLLL wouldn't amount to what these 3 Marines did. They were committing unequivocal fraud. The two lesbos married other Marines for the express purpose to collect rats they weren't eligible for...sorry.

But keep smelling....:1orglaugh

Rep worthy....I guess that's the problem with this generation....(damn, that sounded old:facepalm:). They watch fucking tv then can't accept that they don't live like the people they see in music videos on a military salary...then it's someone else's fault.

Fraud is fraud - and we should hold everyone to the same standard. Sadly, IMO - based on 22 years active duty, this couple was only singled out because she was gay. Over the years I have turned in 5 different "couples" that I've known for the same thing - where that openly admit that they only got married for the money and/or the benefits - where they have never lived together or even pretended to be a couple - and not one of them was ever been investigated.

Call this what you want but in my mind, it's a witch hunt.

More than likely it is a witch hunt. As if them being homosexuals need an additional reason to be witch hunted in the military and unfairly unevenly treated...but fraud is fraud.

He's 100% correct on that one - I bet I still have at least one LES with a BAQ payments on it.

I have all of mine too - in fact, I have every pay-stub I've ever received - I'd call myself "anal" but on this board that may be taken wrong :)
