Damn, I love deep-sea gigantism. It's fucking nuts how big those animals (i.e. Japanese Spider Crab, or Giant Isopod) can become. And it's even more phenomenal because scientists aren't even sure why it happens.

Colossal squid also reminds me of the book Sphere. It's one of my favorite Chrichton novels. You wouldn't call that squid they encounter "not fearsome." Too mad the movie sucked though...
