If you watch the below images from your seat in front
of the computer, Mr.Angry is on the left, and Mrs.Calm
is on the right.

Get up from your seat, and move back 12 feet,
and PRESTO!! they switch places!!

I believe this illusion was created by Phillippe
G.Schyns and Aude Oliva of the Univ. of Glasgow .

This proves that we may not be seeing what's actually
there, all the time!!

This is a standard image processing concept. At high resolution (i.e. you up close) the high frequency (sharp), low amplitude (low contrast) information is more powerful. But lower the image resolution (i.e. move away from screen) you lose the high frequency information and the low frequency, high amplitude (high contrast) information carries more weight. You can do this with any pair of images that you can overlay.

Actually I thought it probably worked like that.

I find the same switch takes place if I squint. While not as effective as moving back, and needing to almost close my eyes, it also prevents me from seeing the higher resolution image on the left.
