MTV - what's the deal?

I watch MTV when I wanna get irritated due to obviously scripted "reality" shows that really make U.S. TV look like shite. I do think shows like "Sex with Dr. Drew" are a good idea but kinda promoting sex at the same time. They seem to always get attractive underage nymphos for the show.

I do love MTV, though, because in the early 90s they did play videos and I then discovered Radiohead and Beck among other bands

MTV is nothing but reality shows...not even good ones now. the only show i watch on MTV now is TruLife...other then that....fuck MTV..

Last time music was shown on MTV = It was crap. It was censored. It was irrelevant to the very people who MADE MTV what it was. In the 80s there was a slogan 'I WANT MY MTV!' that people said because they had to fight to keep it on the air. It used to be music all day long, all night long. They had hosts, they had comedy.. it was basically a UHF station. Cheesy, no production value and it gave rise to a new truth. Conveniently made into a song:
Video Killed the Radio Star.

When there is no music on music television.. the cause has been lost, decomposed and forgotten. That leper colony is beyond redemption. Burn it to the ground, already.

I don't consider myself an avid TV viewer; most of my time is spent on the computer, playing instruments, and hanging out with friends. Though when I do find time to watch TV it's usually stations such as Comedy, Family, Food, A&E, and MTV. I find some of the programs on MTV quite entertaining, even if the majority are scripted (Next, Room Raiders, Cribs, etc.). Although I have a friend who completely despises MTV as a whole. I once asked him why, and he just shook his head and said, "They're pathetic conformists". I didn't really understand what he meant because I have no knowledge of MTV's history. I know he's not the only person out there who doesn't like MTV, so could someone please explain to me why MTV receives so much hate?

Here in Europe MTV has been crap for the last 15 years or so. They do still show Music Videos here, but there are more and more Reality Shows on, so I guess it's just a Question of Time...

from what i herd mtv and vh1 got taken over by a new channel owner who perfers rap over everyother from of music. thats why most of the rock shows have been taken off.
why they have been replaced with shuch shows as g"s too gents. fuse came too and end for me once they let juliya go from the channel i stopped watching soon after!!!!!!!!!

MTV, I've never understood it! It seems their target audience is 16-year-old girls. :dunno:
