I just bought a new laptop and I just realized I forgot my router password...I want to use my laptop wireless, is there a way that I can find my password on my other laptop?...can I find the password if I hook up the laptop to the router with an ethernet cable?....can I *ping* the password?....any help would be appreciated thanks!

I'm too lazy to set a usertitle.
Do you have the install disc that came with your router? I wrote mine on it. I don't know if you did the same thing, but You Might start there.

I would say reset it. Get a tooth pick, and press that little button in the back for a minute or so, then unplug it for a minute or so, then try logging on with the default password. I think that would work.

Try the serial no. of the router. That's usually the default.

A woman is an occasional pleasure but a cigar is always a smoke.
There's plentyof sites that list the default usernames and passwords for each router make and model. And like revid said, if all else fails, pick it!

If it's a Linksys, the default is "admin", after you get into it, then you can change it. But you probably know that already.

There are two real options here. First, if you've got a non-default password, I would strongly recommend just resetting the router and setting it up from scratch. Option two is pretty intricate and involved, and also assumes familiarity of a number of Linux based tools that can find the password. I'd say number one is your best bet.
