NAACP Blasts CNN for Lack of Diversity in Prime Time News

n a press release issued this morning, the NAACP condemned 24-hour cable news channel CNN for its recently announced prime time news lineup, calling the lack of diversity in its collection of news anchors a “glaring omission.”

“The NAACP is deeply concerned with the lack of African American journalists in prime time news, both on cable and national news shows,” NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous said in the statement. “We have come to expect this from the likes of Fox News, but not other networks. While we understand that news is now a 24-hour cycle, most Americans get their news from the morning and evening prime time broadcasts.”

The new CNN news lineup, which was announced yesterday, features John King, Anderson Cooper, Erin Burnett and Piers Morgan.

CNN did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The NAACP’s Hollywood Bureau also announced its plans to meet with cable news presidents to address the issue.

“We look at diversity across all of our cultural landscape all the time,” NAACP Hollywood Bureau Executive Director Vic Bulluk said in an interview. “It’s clear that this just isn’t an issue over at CNN, but across the whole news spectrum. I don’t know if you can put a number on it. We’re not looking for a mathematical solution to this, but right now we’d be happy with one anchor of color. I know there are a lot of considerations going into who gets to sit in those anchor seats.”

"We have come to expect this from the likes of Fox News"

Now see...that's where they lose my respect. CNN hasn't had a black newscaster since Bernard Shaw left a decade ago and I've never seen one on MSNBC.

But they jump on Fox because they're the easy target for the liberals.

Why not go after the broadcast networks? ABC, NBC, CBS. Have any of them ever had a black newscaster???

That's bullshit.

Uh oh, here we go with the quota crap.

AFK..being taken to the vet to get neutered.
Since when did 'diversity' = 'African American'?

Last time I looked 'diverse' covered more than one thing. For instance 'a diverse culture', might include: Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Indian, Samoan, Latino/a, Egyptian, Lithuanian, aboriginal' peoples etc etc.

Talk about a 'black and white' view of the damn world.

Someone at NAACAAAAPPPP needs a dictionary.

Sorry, dicktshunree

Word.

...Talk about a 'black and white' view of the damn world...

More like a black and black world for those folks. Their cries of "racism, bigotry, lack of diversity, etc..." might hold more weight if they, throughout the years, hadn't hosted such speakers as Louis Farrakhan and Jeremiah Wright at their annual conferences. Both of whom are, of course, complete gentlemen that haven't a racist or bigoted bone in their bodies.

The NAACP is stuck in 1993. Now most sane people look, point and tell them to GTFO.

Or maybe because they are openly racist? The host of their highest rated show 'The O'reilly factor' has said on the show that the US is a 'white Christian nation' and must be preserved as such.

I'm no lover of Fox but please provide the clip where O'Reilly said that.

Ok...I checked out both clips and nowhere does he say the U.S. is a white Christian nation and must be preserved as such.

He did acknowledge the concept of a white Christian power structure (which does exist and which he admits to being a part of) but that's not the same as saying the U.S. is a Christian nation and must be preserved as such.

Besides...that second clip was clearly edited.

He clearly says that the left wants to break down 'White Christian privilege nation' and is vehemently 'opposed' to it.

The second clip is a mix of the interview and his radio show, there is no deceptive editing.

On the other side, you have people who hate America, and they hate it because it's run primarily by white, Christian men. Let me repeat that. America is run primarily by white, Christian men, and there is a segment of our population who hates that, despises that power structure.

It's merely stating something which happens to be true.

It is exactly the same, you for some reason want to interpret it differently. And he is not just 'stating' it, he is arguing for it in a pretty unpleasant manner.

This is one in a long and partially effective effort by the left to "other" FOX News out of existence.

The U.S. is primarily a white Judeo Christian country. What's the big problem? To those who have a problem with it go to Venezuela, Iran, China, Zimbabwe, or SA. You'll have loads of laughs there.

What's wrong with that exactly? Is it wrong for Britain to be run White, agnostic men? Seeing as they make up the majority population and built the nation from the ground up.

Whites make up the lion's share of the population and have made the largest contribution in terms of law, business, science, industry, healthcare, education, infrastructure, private and public investment, writing, art, theater etc. etc.
