NASA's search for life

Quit with this. The life that you know of on Earth isn't in good condition, but you wanna go find other life? How about getting us in better shape before spending cash on wandering and meandering in hopes of Christopher Columbusing life forms.

Both Cancer and AIDS still exist by the way...

Seems like there's some unintelligent life here too...
Searching the stars and planets might be a really tough job and the chance of finding anything is really really small, still, someone has to do it.
Altough searching for water seems a bit to much thinking inside the box for me, perhaps there are other kinds of life possible which doesn't need water.

While I think it's okay to search for water and other life forms, I believe 100's and 100's of millions of dollars need not be spent on it. I mean it's quite simple really... we've got way more pressing matters to deal with right now. It seems like we're starving the horses to find the needle in the hay. Truth is, I really don't give a FUCK about other life forms that may not need water... I DO. So I'd appreciate my tax dollars going towards keeping water that I need clean. Quit searching for the next Earth and fix whats here for now. Lets spend on fixing our quality of life before looking for other life.

Well it's not impossible that in a few decennia there are just too many people for this planet, it's already fucked up now and it's only getting worse.
Finding another hospitable planet might save the country that finds it first. It's only a depressing thought that if American's find it first, Fox will become the greatest media station over there... Another planet full of idiots.... sigh...

I'm too lazy to set a usertitle.
In reality actually finding life will be even more difficult than even people think now. At best we will just get some circumstantial evidence it might exist somewhere for a long time to come. Even most compounds that indicate life could also be from some other source so it will all be very uncertain until we somehow find other life itself.

The millions of dollars spent on this research are nothing compared to the billions and billions of dollars of our economy, an economy which is the REAL reason for our world to be in bad shape.
This research is not only about listening if 'little green man' are out there, or finding water. It's about understanding how the universe works, how live began, understanding life itself, and so on. It benefits us all.

To give an idea:

i think there is life somewhere in the universe, we can't imagine how big our universe is, so maybe there are a lot of other life forms far away, so far that we will never notice them...its an interesting topic to me, i don't believe in ufo's and aliens on our planet, but somewhere in the universe, why not?
