NATO Summit 2018

I'm too lazy to set a usertitle.
Just when I think I couldn't be prouder of President Trump, he stands up for America again and justifiably calls out NATO members like Germany.

If Putin is a hostile actor and the threat that he is, why do NATO countries have to be cajoled to take their defense seriously? Nevermind Germany propping up Putin by spending billions of dollars (how many ... "deutsche marks" is that, for the world travellers here among us?) in natural gas from Russia.

Germany isn't taking this seriously; why should we?

When the left and their media are squealing like stuck pigs, you know President Trump is on point.

America First, bitches.

Be careful what you wish for, it might come true!
Trump per usual presents a ridiculously simplistic scenario for consumption by the flock.

No nuances. No historical framework. No appreciation for the many ways in which america benefits from NATO. No actual economic analysis (which is supposed to be his forte, no?) - just short-sighted bomb-throwing.

Re Kolinda: imo her face kinda looka-lika-man :eeeek:

And those thighs. No desire to dive head first into a bad case of friction rash.
This one is all yours, Mister Fox.

Oops. Almost left out the frequent portraying of Putin as really not a bad guy. Which is a not so subtle subtext to this.

Nuance, niceties and platitudes have been tried for decades including President Obama and it's fallen on deaf ears or met with a tepid response like 2% over 10 years. Wow, the urgency.

NATO does still serve an important purpose and is a help to the United States, the families of the 1000 killed in Afghanistan and Iraq can attest. But it's also true that they haven't been pulling their fair share and some have even been duplicitious like Germany. Ask what the former Soviet Bloc members feel about that Russia-Germany pipeline.

Contrary to what the predictable liberal media are portraying, President Trump is not trying to tear down NATO but to build it up. We need allies not a protectorate. Where the hell is the German army if shit goes sideways with Russia?

As President Trump said, the games are over.

And as far as the Croatian President goes, don't talk about my Kol like that.

The left have been disparaging NATO for at least 4 decades. Only now is it a sacred cow.
Here’s an article posted a year and a half before Trump even announced his candidacy spelling out some of the very arguments that Trump made during the NATO summit.

https://foreignpolicy.com/2014/06/20/think-again-nato/

Your response is typical, somehow Trump standing up for the U.S. is childish and embarrassing. The United States is considered a meal ticket by many countries and Trump has put them on notice that the free ride is coming up an end. I’m not surprised in the least that you don’t like it or that you somehow try and construe Trump’s words into destruction of alliances.

Yeah, antagonising all your allies, what a great idea. Underminin all what stands between Putin and his expansionists dreams, what a great idea...
And what better way to do it than spreading lies and misinformations.

Trump: How much of Germany's gas comes from Russia?

The claim: Germany imports 60% to 70% of its energy from Russia.
Reality Check verdict: Germany relies on Russia for most of its imports of natural gas. But gas makes up less than 20% of Germany's energy mix for power production.

At a Nato summit, US President Donald Trump criticised Germany for importing so much of its gas from Russia while expecting the US to pay to protect it from Russia.
"Germany is totally controlled by Russia because they will be getting from 60% to 70% of their energy from Russia and a new pipeline," he said.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has responded by saying that having had experience of a time when part of Germany was controlled by the Soviet Union, she is now confident that the whole country is independent.

Mr Trump is right that Germany relies on Russia for most of its gas imports. Eurostat estimates that Russia is responsible for between 50% and 75% of Germany's gas imports.
The commodities brokerage Marex Spectron told Reality Check that about 60% of Germany's gas was imported from Russia, with most of the rest coming from Norway.

But that does not mean that 60% of Germany's energy comes from Russia - Germany's energy mix for power production is about 40% coal, more than 30% renewables, less than 20% gas and 10% nuclear, according to Marex Spectron.
The country is trying to reduce its use of coal and cut out nuclear altogether, which means its use of gas and renewables is likely to increase.

Some of the extra gas is likely to come from Russia as a result of the building of a new pipeline under the Baltic Sea called Nord Stream 2, which Mr Trump referred to.
The German government has stressed that the €9.5bn ($11.1bn; £8.4bn) pipe from Russia to Germany is being funded by private companies and that no German taxpayer money will be spent on building it.
Nonetheless, President Trump pointed out that former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder was involved in the leadership of the project.

But even with the new pipeline, the use of gas in Germany will not increase by nearly enough to mean 60% to 70% of energy will be coming from Russia.

Reality Check verdict: Germany relies on Russia for most of its imports of natural gas. But gas makes up less than 20% of Germany's energy mix for power production.

When you hear President Trump throwing dats to back up his claims, one thing is 100% sure : The numbers are skewed or totally false.

Because Obama did better? He was mostly apologizing towards European countries rather than truely defending American interests. If some countries like Germany (who abandonned its nuclear powered centrals and who wants to turn on green energy), France and other countries wants the American protection, they have to stop buying gaz and electricity from Gazprom (a russian company). Few european countries have accepted to spend over 3% of their GDP to their defense spending, Trump nailed it and slammed in the face of the general secretary of Nato. Trump is man of principles and calls a cat, a cat. I like him for this straightforwardness.

The pipeline is not a reality yet. And as with everything that the left does, they promise one thing and then do the opposite. It is possible that Trump’s use of the word “ energy” was only to mean fossil fuels. Mentioning that data is being used to mislead is ironic. It is straight from the left’s playbook.

Here’s what we know, Germany has a side deal with Russia for the majority of their energy. The rest of Europe don’t have such a deal and Germany were trying to have this sweetheart deal under the radar.
You as a French citizen should be outraged, not making excuses for them.

1) Merkel is not Left, moron.
2) Speaking about energy, Merkel promised germany will give up nuclear energy. It's almost done

It is possible that Trump’s use of the word “ energy” was only to mean fossil fuels.
Then it would also be wrong because Germany get 2/3 of its fossil fuel energy from coal and that coal doesn't comes from Russia
Lies and misinformation, again

Germany has a side deal with Russia for the majority of their energy.

The moronic statement is comparing varying degrees of European politics to American politics. The center left, center right factions as understood in Europe is not relative to the American two party system nor are we a parliamentary style government based on coalitions.
Drawing a parallel with American politicians and European politicians is a classic example of apples and oranges.

Then ameircans shouldn't state that eurpoean politician A is Right and european poilitician B is Left 'cause political spectrums in the US are different frompilitical spectrums in Europe

Gas and oil are fossil fuels
Yep but, assuming Trump meant "fossil fuel energy" when he said "energy", let's rewrite the claim : Germany imports 60% to 70% of its fossil fuel energy from Russia
That is wrong : Germany gets its energy by :
Coal : 60%
Renewable : 30%
Gas : 20%
Nuclear : 20%
If you do the maths, Germany get's only 25% of its fossil fuel energy through gas.

So Trump's claim about 70% is not even remotely accurate. So, either Trump is lying or he's totally ignorant about what he's talking about.

Lying, pulling fake statistics out of nowhere is Trump's go to move when he needs to make a point.
Here's another example :

The people of Germany are turning against their leadership as migration is rocking the already tenuous Berlin coalition. Crime in Germany is way up. Big mistake made all over Europe in allowing millions of people in who have so strongly and violently changed their culture!

That beheading story wasn't censored. Médias in Germany covered it

But actually claiming the number are false when they don't fit your narrative is a classicisme Trump move and it's also been used a lot by trumptards.
These people can't stand being proven wrong by facts...

Johan is correct Germany's crime rate is at its lowest level since 1992 and I cross checked the facts.
