Eric Bana...Come on, James Bond is English. I know we've had Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan who've been Scottish and Irish respectively, but lets have a proper English James Bond.
It's like Mel Gibson playing Braveheart and Kevin Costner playing Robin Hood. I know they're all good actors and can put on the accent (apart from Connery) but give it back to an Englishman.
Precisely.... well, except for the part about Kevin Costner being a good actor!
I've never read any of Fleming's novels, but I know Bond to be English. That being said, I've never held that against Connery or Brosnan (in fact, Connery's my fav Bond), as it still seems somewhat plausible for a Scotsman or Irishman to be working for the UK Secret Service.... I'm not familiar with the rules regarding this but it certainly makes sense. Having an Australian cast as Bond just seems, for lack of a better term,
inappropriate. However, it does happen all the time... I always think it's odd whenever I see a production of
Julius Caesar, for instance, where you have a cast of Brits playing
Romans!
