A fellow I met last week invited me to a TEA Party gathering in my area (why, I really have no idea). Maybe I'll go. I mean, what could it hurt? But if I get brainwashed and start talking a bunch of wingnut, paranoid-schizo foolishness when I come here (like more than I already do!), maybe I'll try to "friend" this lil guy :tinhat:

It was kind of funny how we got to that point. I was out in the middle of no where looking at a stand of timber with this guy, and we'd been having a really good chat up to that point. He's a fair amount older than me, but it turns out we knew some of the same people in another city. He's involved in county govt. in another town and several people from around here have been trying to get me to run for a similar position for several years, so I asked what his experiences had been so far. So he invited me to attend a board meeting with him, go behind the scenes... and then afterward, some of them were going to have a gathering of their new TEA Party chapter. Me: :eek:

Now I realize that not all of them are flakes. But I know full well that some of them most definitely are flakes. So here I am way out in the woods, in a strange place, no weapon on me and not even sure which direction I'd have to run if he started foaming at the mouth and acting goofy. In my paranoid mind I was thinking, "if necessary, stun him with a right jab, set him up with a left hook and then take him out with a right upper cut." Then my sane mind said, "he's half your size, about six inches shorter, 15 years older and doesn't look like he'd be even a good match for your girlfriend in a throw-down. What's wrong with you?!"

In retrospect, I don't think he's really a nutter. I think he's just one of those people who is really into self-reliance, smaller government, private property rights, etc. And yeah, I was kind of curious how he viewed "she who shall not be named", but if he'd started yacking about what a smart visionary and upstanding maverick/rogue she was... I might have dropped his old ass and left him for the coyotes to feed on. Hey, maybe there really was a nut out there in the woods that day... and it wasn't him.

If I go (and I doubt that I will), I'll give you a play-by-play. Could be entertaining, I guess. But in college, I stayed away from the Moonies. In the 90's, I stayed away from the militias. And now, I don't think getting involved with the TEA Party (in any capacity) is a good idea. :nono:
