I truly loved the Miller commercials with him & Dick Butkus. Sad day.

Just like Johnny Unitas, Tom Matte, and John Mackey who made the Baltimore Colts offense great. On the other side of the ball, Bubba Smith and Mike Curtis made the Baltimore Colts defense great. The New York Jets were able to exploit the Colts in Super Bowl III, as both of them were lined up on that same right side and the Jets ran away from them. However, the Colts moved Curtis to middle linebacker against the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl V. The Colts won their first Super Bowl in this mistake filled game on Jimmy O'Brien's field goal.

I was nicknamed "Bubba" when I was playing D-line growing up. My Dad would always tell me stories about everybody at Spartan Stadium chanting "Kill, Bubba, Kill". I remember him as "Hightower" and the Miller Lite commercials. A great player, a great Spartan and a great man.

I was so sad when I read that Bubba had passed. He was great actor, great footballer player and seemed like a really great person to know. RIP Bubba
