So there's about 30 games left in the season, let's look back and see how close our predictions were, shall we?
Way off in the East; all the top three teams might not even make it into the playoffs! Damn good prediction on Pittsburgh, though. Clearly I didn't give New Jersey or Washington enough credit; though that was less of a statement on the quality of their teams and more "I just plane thought other teams would be better". On top of that, turns out Buffalo was a big surprise.
Out of the playoffs, I notice three things. I did not expect Florida, New York, or (especially) Ottawa - bit me in the ass, though I predicted Florida could surprise. I was right that it was going to be crowded; spots 6-13 are all seperated at the moment by a game or two. I gave Toronto way too much credit.
Looking at the top three, I think that was a good prediction; all three teams have the chance to be in the top three at the end of the season. I was right about the Flames falling apart, but it appears I expected too much from Detroit, Columbus and St. Louis. The Kings are better then I thought they'd be, but due to other teams the standings doesn't really reflect that.
Outside the playoffs, I notice right off that I was wrong about Nashville, Phoenix and Colorado. Colorado has a chance to win the Northwest, and Nashville and Phoenix could possibly round out the top five teams in the West.
Well, I still think Vancouver could go all the way, but Philly? Not a chance. Both Los Angeles and Buffalo are more than Cinderella teams at this point, in my opinion - if they make the playoffs both should be expected to contend. For Buffalo, the fact that the East is so even talent wise is a good sign for them (and every playoff team in the East). Any team that makes the playoffs has a chance to win the Conference.
If I had to update my predictions, I'd say a San Jose/Chicago Vs. Washington final.

Wow I was way off on some of my picks but I'm not the only one. The league is so competitive now , the bottom 2 teams of my predictions in the west are both in the playoffs right now and Ottawa is doing much better than what I expected. I still think in the end , Tampa will be in 7th place like I predicted.

Well, my brother in law is from the Toronto area playing pro right now in the states, but I don't get to see him much because he's a pro. When I see him I will get his opinion. The Church is still the best arena in the history of hockey though whatever your opinion is. Is it still there or did they knock it down?

Maybe after the end of this year you can finally say that your team is a Stanley Cup champion as well. Sincerely, I put Vancouver up there with any other team right now. The Sedins are actually playing better than they ever have, which is a pretty amazing thing to say, and Alex Burrows is playing so well on a line with them, which is something the Canucks have rarely had. Their defencemen are easily in the top five in the NHL, and Luongo is a stud. I'd put Vancouver, San Jose, and Chicago at the top of the list for Cup contenders as of right now, though I think goaltending is still an issue in Chicago.
P.S. If your dream comes true and the Canucks do finally win a Stanley Cup (they have been around longer than my five-time Cup-winning Oilers without a Cup to show for it yet) then you'll be one step out of five closer to actually being able to talk smack.

The ongoing Tampa Bay Lightning ownership saga may be about to take another interesting twist.
According to a report in The Hockey News, the NHL is negotiating the sale of the Lightning, as well as land adjacent to the St. Petes-Times Forum from the OK Hockey Group to Jeffrey Vinik for an estimated price of $170 million.
Since acquiring the team from former owner Bill Davidson in 2008, the relationship between OK Hockey's co-owners, Oren Koules and Len Barrie, has deteriorated. There has been a great deal of public bickering between the pair over the direction of the team recently.
The 50-year old Vinik is a Boston based hedge fund manager who is also a limited partner in the Boston Red Sox. His net worth reportedly exceeds $500 million.
The Hockey News is also speculating that if Vinik buys the team that he will likely attempt to cut payroll, meaning rumours of Vincent Lecavalier's departure may heat up once again. The Lightning's captain is scheduled to earn $10 million for the next six seasons with a salary cap hit of $7.7 million per season. The possibility exists that Lecavalier may be made available before the NHL's trade deadline prior to Vinik potentially taking control of the team.
Lecavalier has a no movement clause in his contract and has previously stated that he would like to remain in Tampa, however there had been plenty of discussion of a potential move to Montreal for more than a year.

Josh Harding with a GREAT shutout victory over our conference rivals the Avs last night. 1-0. Played great. This road trip should decide the Western conference for us. I think we have a good chance at getting in.
