Well, Atlanta just needs to play better. Columbus hasn't made the playoffs, but they are in the north and hockey is bigger down there. Atlanta, if the team sucks, then no one is going to come. Back when they were doing good, they were getting a good draw. Look at the Ducks, back when they were the best they were huge in Anaheim. Atlanta just needs to have a few good seasons.
And I think it is too early to truely judge whether or not Tampa will do good. Look at Washington last year.

I'm really liking this Canucks team. Great speed, better depth, and a much-improved work ethic. I know its only been 4 games, but this looks like a playoff team so far.

That they were. Another thing I like is they have 4 lines they can roll without shuffling. Bernier looks like a great fit with the twins, Raymond and Demitra look like they've been playing together for 5 years, Hansen has slid in nicely with Kes and Burr, and that 4th line of Johnson, Hordichuk, and Rypien look solid. Just need to avoid injuries (especially to the blueline) and this team is a serious threat to win the NW division.

they also need to be consistent with the number of shots they have on net during each game, they need to have a decent number like 20 or more

Yeah, that does worry me. They'll have a night like tonight, where they get 30 or so shots on net, then they'll throw 10 on net like they did against the Caps. Definitely need to be more consistent in that area.

I think they made 4 terrible mistakes in the off season :
1. hiring Barry Melrose as head coach
2. Signing Gary Roberts
3. Signing Mark Recchi
4. Trading Dan Boyle
Obviously they can't repair the 4th mistake but they can do something about the first 3 .

Don't worry about your lighting, atleast not yet, I entered the thread last year and only posted about injuries, rumors, trades, great fights, hits, questionable hits, or something significant that happened within a game..
I will not ever gloat or anything about the REDWINGS when they win a big game or are playing stellar, or poorly, its what the 1st ten games of the year, they are still tweaking and experimenting, I say you can't really gauge a teams destiny or tendancies until atleast 35 - 45 games into the regular season, even mediocre teams can start meshing and be a force in the standings, and eventually make or break there own playoff eligibility or somebody else's!!
I don't know how good or bad of a coach melrose is? didn't he take the LA Kings to the finals? regardless, it seems like lighting fans were going crazy over the summer up until present, thats why the lighting fan base is considered shaky @ best, thats a perfect example of bandwagon fans, thats neither here nor there, I am not accusing you or anybody posting in this thread as bandwagon fans, but fans who jump on and off depending on the teams performances game to game.. lighting fans are wishy washy, depends how the team is playing, fans go crazy, and they also become disenchanted when things are going bad..
I maybe totally mistaken in your opinion, but the season is young, and you can't judge a teams whole season on the 1st dozen or so games, if your teams record is (4 - 14 - 2) twenty games in then thats a bad sign, but if the team is winning 6 out of every 10 games or better, your team has some hope.. just my :2 cents: :thumbsup: :hatsoff:

It was in 1993 (15 years ago), with Gretzky and Blake (in his prime). He left coaching not long after and havent coached since.
Personnally, i dont understand why he have been hired while the likes of Mike Hartley and Ted Nolan are both waiting for a job in the NHL. There is even rumors about Pat Burns looking to go back behind a bench. I think the Lighntnings owners looked more for *popular guys* (Melrose was working in the media) that can attract crowds more than looking for competent guys (statement applies to vets Recchi and Roberts). Bad bad bad move.

Well, Canucks got beat by a better team tonight. Buffalo dominated the first period and was slightly better the rest of the way. Even so, the miss on the 2 on 1 by Burrows and Hansen could have changed the game. Good game Sabres.

Sabres are underrated this year. Lindy Ruff is really doing something great with his fast skaters.
Montreal 1st game of the season was in Buffalo. They got us on the shoutout. I have been impressed by their play.
