Thats what we thought in Montreal, Thunder Bolt. Carbonneau been talking about team toughness for few years now... And also how PP goals are a better answer to intimidation than fighting back. That strategy works in regular season but not in playoffs (way too many injured players after our serie against Boston).
And we hired Laraque as soon as he have been available.
I have to agreen that goons arent as important as before but when they can play hockey (like Laraque, Brashear, etc), they still usefull tools in a coach arsenal.
It's just sad that in the new NHL, a new kind of player, Ryan Hollweg being a prime example, are now rising. With the silly instigator rule, they can play their dirty game without being punched, they hide behind referees and are injuring other players.
Montreal changed his mind about having a goon or not. I guess our team toughness wasnt good enough or there is too many cheap players ala Hollweg in the NHL which needs to be intimidated...
Also, for us, loosing Komisarek for 5mins really hurts. So we needed someone to do that job on our team when it was necessary.
Im expecting a change in rules regarding headshots and/or instigator rule. But untill something is done regarding the Avery and Hollweg of this world, we need goons to face them.
My :2 cents:
