TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -Defenseman Marek Malik has signed a one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The team announced the deal on Thursday. The Czech Republic native played in 42 games with the New York Rangers last season. He had two goals and 10 points.
Malik has played in 649 career NHL games with Hartford/Carolina, Vancouver and the Rangers for a total of 33 goals and 163 points. The 33-year-old won the bronze medal with the Czech Republic at the 2006 Olympics.
He was drafted by Hartford in the third round, 72nd overall, in 1993.

I'm so great I'm jelous of myself.
Malik is a solid stay-at-home defensemen with a good first pass. Not shining but effective. Not rubust but fiable. 5th or 6th in the depth chart.
He will be really helpfull in TB in my opinion. Malik was maybe the best NHL-level defensemen not in the NHL. A good signing
