Is Mr. Cage a good actor? Yes or no. This isn't about the quality of his movies, strictly his skills as an actor. I say no. He over acts everything IMO.

Not so much, even though I like several of the movies he's been in.

Go figure.

He hasn't been any good since "Honeymoon in Vegas." Maybe "The Rock," too, but there were several scenes in that one that make me cringe.

There are good actors and then there are "good" actors. Clint Eastwood, Tom Hanks and Sylvester Stallone are "good," per se, but in all of their movies I see the same person.

On the other hand, Leo DiCaprio, John Malkovich and Christian Bale are good actors because every role they're in they appear as different caracters - they embody something new and unique.

If that made sense, good; if not, I DGAF.

I like Nic Cage and 8MM is a great film, but I would'nt put him in the league of the latter group I listed above. :2 cents:

I need to clean my screen!
He's a fantastic actor who just doesn't make the best choices in projects and isn't afraid to simply go for the paycheck.

I thought he's made great choices. Matchstick Men, The Rock, 8mm, The Family Man, Leaving Las Vegas, Adaptation etc. Great movies that probably could have been better with someone else.

He's average... good in some role, not so much in others. :dunno:

He has no choice but to go for a paycheck. The man owes tons of money, he's choosing his projects out of necessity. Why else would he do Ghost Rider II?

Not really...although some of his movies I like, e.g. Kick-Ass, The Rock, and National Treasure. He claimed that he created a new acting style called Nouveau Shamanic and will write a book about it. Francis Ford Coppola's nephew acting claim is that he won best actor for Leaving Las Vegas.

Yes, all films considered, Cage is a ''good'' actor, but Christian Slater plays the better bad guy. . . . .IMO at least. ;)

Cage is certainly not going to be the next gen. Chris Walken, you can count on that.

I think he's a versatile and decent actor, although his good movie-terrible movie ratio is about 50/50. These days he'll do whatever movie is offered to him, and he's gotten lucky with some of them. I especially liked Face-off, Bad Lieutenant, and Raising Arizona though. I think this diagram hits the mark.

I don't think the G-spot exists!
no

Cage plays simplistic characters that people can get a quick, cheap emotional attachment to (ala Bruckheimer), but has no range or depth as an 'actor'''

With him declaring bankruptcy a few years ago, its only going to get worse

He can be when he wants to but lately, as ragincaucasian mentioned, he's just in it for a paycheck due to his money troubles so he'll pretty much do any movie. You can tell he knows the movie sucks when he just full on goes into overacting mode i.e The Wicker Man. Personally, I don't mind that as there's a certain entertainment value when it comes to bad movies.
