I hate the academy awards. If the only (new) movies I could see each year were the ones nominated for an oscar, I wouldn't be seeing much.
How come only huge hits at the box office are nominated year after year?
An example:
How can Ray and Troy even be in the same category for "Achievement in Costume Design" and not Alexander (which didn't deserve an oscar for best movie or naything like that but hey, did anyone see those elephants?) ?
If you want to find the most succesfull movie of a year, let the number do the talking, if you'Re looking for a best film or best editing though, these movies (that are always over-produced) definately are not your first choice. Oh, well...
I cant'd disagree with all their nominees though. And I must admit I didn't see all of the nominated pictures.

Jaimie Foxx should win both best actor and best supporting actor for Ray and Collateral. Damn he one hell of an actor.

The Oscars are far from perfect, but compared to other award shows they do a decent job of rewarding less commercial projects. If there's another big award show that panders less to the mainstream than the Oscars please let me know. :)

Reading this proves that you are a Porn Junkie.
How the hell could you pick Shark Tale over The Incredibles? Incredibles was one of the best movies I've ever seen, animated or not.

The director's guild awards  .... ok, not a BIG one, but not about commercial success.

I agree whole-heartedly with you Krendall, The Incredibles was far and beyond better then Shark Tale, which was just trying to dupe the Finding Nemo crowd into watching a second grade movie.

Searching for Freeones enlightenment.
Finding Neverland and Closer should dominate because i loved both of those movies, going to see "The Aviator" "Sideways" and "Million Dollar Baby" this weekend

In love with my hand
I actually feel bad this year because I haven't been to tne movies much this year and the Oscar night is just a reminder of how much I missed out this year.

Johnny Depp should get best actor and Clive Owen should get best supporting, because Collateral was not that good and Closer was awesome

I'm touching myself right now!
I haven't seen ANY of the movies, but I totally dig Scorsese and Depp.
