Anti freeze (glycolized) laden toothpaste, poisoned (melamine) gluten in pet foods, toxic drywall and the list goes on ! Remember, it wasn't long ago when we used to manufacture this stuff right here in America but somewhere along the line a NAFTA / GATT and free trade concept took root, thank you republicans and democrats and it's never been the same.

How fucked up is that ? They, the govt and their big business buddies, outsource American jobs overseas for a greater profit margin taking advantage of a dirt cheap labor source and they can't even pay their bills to the chicoms after all of their additional earnings margins ?
Trouble is, there are so may layers of deception that it becomes nearly impossible to hold anybody to account. :hammer:

Is there any wonder why this is going on ?

Author sums it up very pragmatically -
As global trade expands, the problem of importing dangerous products will get worse. If foreign companies are not required to meet U.S. safety standards, they will cut corners in order to deliver items at a much lower price than U.S. companies.

I don’t want to compromise my safety in order to save a few bucks. I don’t want lead in kid’s toys, tires that explode or drywall that gives off dangerous fumes.

Trouble is that we the consumers don't really have a choice in the matter, we generally get what's available before the problem exists :(

Yes, I bribed and cheated to get this far
Hate to burst your bubble, but companies don't care about you. Neither does the government. They just want your money and they want to cut as many corners as they can get away with to maximize their profit.

The "conspiracy" is that they know that there is nothing that you can do about it because it's not like people are going to stop buying things that they need or that they have been duped into thinking that they need.

My take on it is you can't have tough standards and cheap prices.

China is a still developing economic society. In the early 20th century the US had very little standards as well.Give them time they will get better like we did over time especially if their lack of standards starts to hurt sales.Right now their goal is make it fast, make it cheap and get it sold.
