Nutrisystem....blah....

What a nasty "diet" this was. My mom tried it and the food was so bad she couldn't even eat it. I tried a few items and couldn't finish them, they tasted so atrocious. Chris Berman looks as fat as ever too. Wow, what a scam that diet is. Yuck.

Have your mom try reversing her meals (Largest meal in the morning) and eat a cup of low fat cottage cheese or a glass of reduced fat milk before bed.

Ugh, I hate when people try to find a perfect solution to losing weight.

I am into bulking and cutting at certain times of the year. Just started bulking though. Had to lose 70 pounds first to feel better about myself.

Winter - perfect bulking time. No way I see myself going out in the winter time with no shirt on.

Spring/Summer - perfect cutting time - love having my abdominal muscles show.

All you really need to do is learn more about food and how it works for your body.

What I do when I'm cutting.

1. Eat mostly natural foods
Oats, Chicken, Steak, Cottage Cheese, Tuna, Egg Whites, Fruits, Vegetables, and etc

No need sauces most of the food is GFG without it.

Drink natural drinks
90% water
10% other drinks that our mostly natural like many of the 90%+ fruit drinks out there. Just need the simple carbohydrates for a workout sometimes.

Complex Carbohydrates - 90% of the time earlier in the day.

Simple Carbohydrates - 10% of the time when I need the energy for a workout.

Portions (very important)
Eat 5-6 smaller meals every day instead of 3 larger meals. It helps to prevent your metabolism from slowing down.

Avoid:
High Fructose Corn Syrup - soda/pop - stay away from foods with it.
Aspartame - no need low calorie drinks just water.
Eating when you're bored.

Routine - workout w/e I feel like it.
Breakfast - largest meal - Mostly complex carbohydrates and other things needed for that day.

inbetween - small meal with no carbohydrates

Lunch - Still some complex carbohydrates

inbetween - I start to only eat foods with lower amounts of carbohydrates.

Dinner - Steak/Chicken/ground beef (95% lean)

my 6th meal if needed. Cottage cheese right before bed. very low in carbohydrates and it's high in protein.

Gym - Exercising isn't needed, but it can help.
Run for 45 minutes 3-4x a week
Lift 3-4x a week (no time limit really)
Abdominal exercises 3x a week. Usually do them last so I don't risk over tasking them while lifting (example - squatting).

I hope you don't take this the wrong way and/or it was a waste of time. Just bored and trying to help.

This is also what fits my needs for lower body fat so I can see my abdominal muscles. You still can eat what you desire from time to time, but don't over do it.

Get carbs outta the way in the beginning of the day and like you said, protein at night. Lotta different ways to lose weight. My personal favorite is the "vodka diet." :D my mom paid like $300 for one month of that Nutrisystem crap.

Good info but if you ever wanted to discourage people on the fence that info dump would be the way to do it.:1orglaugh

The first rule I've learned in weight control, fitness or body building is to make small, manageable changes first. Eating habits are the easiest to change but they have to be changes that aren't a shock to your lifestyle or else, you won't stick with it.

Carbohydrates early in the day. It's when your body needs it's energy for the day you're about to encounter. No need too many simple carbohydrates though. Go with more complex carbohydrates. They take longer to break down and will give you more energy. Simple carbohydrates for quick energy.

Protein at night if your lifting. You don't want to over use protein.

1:1 (1 gram of protein per pound of body weight)

I recommend losing any weight first before you decide to start lifting.

I didn't lift at all during my weight loss.
I just started running and eating more natural foods that aren't processed and full of garbage.

don't be hesitant at first though if you decide to start running. The first mile I ran was 13 minutes.

I missed this point! It's so true though.
I didn't start out with some hardcore diet when I was first losing weight.

Reason diets don't really work. People say I'm going to just eat this from now on and nothing else.

Simple changes -
1. cut down on soda then changed it to no soda. Changed to water over time.
2. started running - slow as hell at first
3. eating more natural foods. I still ate pretty unhealthy at first, but as I started to lose weight I started to eat better.

High quality, slow release protein before bed is good in any event to discourage fat storage when your body runs out of protein at night IMO.

Of course, if you're not weight training no need for 30 grams of protein but a glass of low fat milk, cottage cheese and nuts helps.:2 cents:

Also, I always recommend for beginners to daily cardio is to do one of two things, find a fairly challenging hill to run up and walk down a few times. Less impact on joints and higher intensity work out. Or wind sprints on beach sand...10-12 mins is roughly equal to 25 to 30 mins of jogging depending on body weight.

Jumping/skipping rope is also a great exercise for cutting body fat. Investing in a small trampoline and a rope....I would suggest also this little trick. Some people are not as coordinated to consistently skip rope at a fast enough rhythm without getting tripped up on the rope at some point. In that case, I say get a nylon rope, cut off both ends around 2 feet down the rope, tie off a few metal nuts on the ends for weight and it's the same exact exercise without the worry of breaking your rhythm.

Do not eat anything but fruit after dinner for 3 consecutive months and see what happens.
It's amazing how many calories you can pile on just before bedtime.
Substitute the junk with Grapes, apples, H2º melon, pineapple, whatever, it's all good shit !
Oh, domestic produce ONLY ! :)

The worst thing that people do is open up a bag of chips or crackers whilst getting mesmerized by their tvs. Before you know it the whole damned bag or box of junk is in their gut . . . just before bed.

I wouldn't recommend fruits before bed, but that's just me.

Too many carbohydrates

My mom used to buy into all of that crap too. Every single diet is a waste of time and money. All people need to do is stop eating so many calories and exercise regularly. That's all I've been doing and I've lost around 20 lbs in the last 5 weeks.

Don't eat so much + run for 10 minutes a day = you will lose weight

I get winter weight. I usually gain about 10 lbs over the winter, as do a lot of other people I know. Being from the cold north is like that.

Well, a lot of people gain weight in the winter because they don't feel motivated to exercise. Plus, they usually eat nothing but cookies and fatty foods. Mmm, winteeeeer. flylicker

I usually have around 6% - 7% depending on my workouts. I keep in shape by following a simple plan. No processed carbohydrates, plenty of vegetables, fruits and water..........exercising will fix everything else.:yinyang:

I suppose they couldn't make cardboard taste all that great in the end.
