Yes, you are correct. Yet, I don't see Obama racing to close this long established loophole.
No, but I'll give him this much: at least he has spoken about the need for comprehensive tax reform... which is more than most of the current GOP leadership has done. What little they've said about the matter revolves around any (corporate) tax reform being revenue neutral.

Just using simple math, most economists realize that the only way to attack the debt and deficit is by cutting spending AND increasing revenues. Funny how the GOP starts out talking about the need to rein in spending, but Boehner and the Boys were ready to sacrifice their testicles to make sure that the tax breaks that mainly benefited the wealthy stayed in place, isn't it? Didn't mind adding to the deficit to accomplish that, did they?
I'm not a Democrat or a Republican. And unless my mind begins to weaken or I turn to drink & drugs, I doubt I ever will be. Especially when it comes to domestic programs, the Democrats tend not to be in favor of spending cuts. And when it comes to defense and foreign aid, the Republicans always seem to have an excuse why that should not be cut. And neither side seems to have a workable (good) plan for reforming the tax code, so that it doesn't take a Harvard educated MBA with a JD to fill out a freakin' 1040!
Another gripe I have with the current (Taliban like) GOP leadership is their willingness to quickly oppose ANYTHING that Obama supports. Who was it just a week or so ago who was in favor of a no-fly zone in Libya? Haley "The Fat Man from Mississippi" Barbour? But as soon as Obama came out in support of that concept, Barbour was against it. Anyone who places their bets solely based on how their enemy feels about an issue is not someone who I think is fit for higher office. And Barbour I actually have some experience with. He was a lobbyist for a company I used to work for. That fat piece of crap would sell you 15 minutes of brothel time with his mother if the price was right. The Dems have their fair share of crooked characters too. But to my eyes, the GOP has fairly recently been taken over by a self-righteous, sanctimonious bunch of usurpers. So even if Obama came up with the greatest tax reform plan since Caesar Augustus, you can bet your last dollar that the GOP would oppose it. It's just how they operate these days.
I actually think that some of these Tea Party people have their hearts (if not their heads) in the right place. Yeah, some of them are kooks. But more than a few are decent hard working people, who just want to be left alone and would like the government to stop spending more than it brings in. Where it's going off the tracks is with the slick talking politicians who claim to be with the Tea Party faithful, but are instead just using them to get elected. It's just like Jimmy Swaggert and Jim & Tammy Faye Baker claiming to be good Christians just to get bigger donations from people with big hearts (and small brains).
