Obama: Controversy on Memorial Day

Will E Worm

Conspiracy...
President Barack Obama sought to dodge racial controversy on Memorial Day, sending wreaths to a monument for Confederate soldiers and other flowers to a memorial honoring more than 200,000 African-Americans who fought for the Union during the Civil War.

Obama, the nation's first black president, planned to continue tradition and have aides leave a wreath at the Confederate Memorial in Arlington National Cemetery, the 600-acre site that once was Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee's estate. But the White House also will send a wreath to the African American Civil War Memorial in Washington's historically black U Street neighborhood.

He couldn't put a wreath on the tombs himself?

I thought he was all about change?

I'm sorry. I missed the "controversy" part.:confused::confused::confused:

You're not a "drama queen" are you blowing up every non issue into a "controversy"?

Mr. Daystar

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
He should have sent a black aide to the Confederate sight, and a white aide to the sight honoring black soldiers of The Civil War. Problem solved.

I don't see a problem.

Unless you want it to be a problem.

Then you can always find a way to make it a problem.

I don't see any controversy, I think he did the right thing by recognizing all of those who fought.
The Civil War was a major historical event in this country.
Good for him.

FreeOnes turned me straight!
You have badly misinterpreted the controversy. The issue was not about sending aides, which all presidents do, but whether or not a black president should be "honoring" Confederate dead in the first place.

Agreed. But it wasn't a circumstance of Obama's making. Some group petitioned him as is their right to do and as is done with other elected officials. I suspect Obama considered it, then came to a decision.

So he's doing the same thing every other President has done but because he's black it's a problem?

I don't get what the problem is.

What? As most people have figure out Obama is not truly black.
His mother was white. :yinyang:

Not only should he and every President place a wreath on their tombs, they should apologize for saying the Civil War was fought over slavery.

Also, the South should seceded from the Union and elect their own President.

:hatsoff:

New states added to the South:
Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, New Jersey,
Delaware, and Maryland.

WillE, nobody gives a shit about the Civil War except for racists and "re-enactors" who are people who literally have no social life except for playing "soldier".

The Racists who want a return to "Southern Values" such as the master/slave relationship are free to leave this country, and start their own Pro Slavery country somewhere. There are thousands of islands in the Atlantic and Pacific. They can settle on a few islands and start their own racist Jamestown Colony...

Look at that..a solutions-oriented answer...

I love this part of the story of Arlington. As mentioned the cemetary is located on what had been Robert E Lee's estate in Va.

The land was taken from Lee and a cemetary was very delibertly put there.

Sure he is black , america(the world) decides your racial identification and people no matter what mix they are find themselves quickly defined and categorized.

Not only should he and every President place a wreath on their tombs, they should apologize for saying the Civil War was fought over slavery.

Only possible apology should be for slavery not for the war that was about ending it.Of course the civil war at its core was about slavery. That had been the issue tearing at the union for decades ( basically from day one of the country). The right to own slaves was the "state right" the southern states were seeking to preserve.

Also, the South should seceded from the Union and elect their own President.

NJ put in with the seceding south?????????????????????
No thanks we will stick with the union who thankfully won the war.

WillE, we already have "the new South" map. It's all the Red States. I don't think many of the citizens currently living in your chosen states voted for McCain, aka The SlaveMaster Whitey, though. Are you sure those citizens in those states share your beliefs? Or would you have to "purge" the populace?

That was wrong and unconstitutional.

Sure he is black , america(the world) decides your racial identification and people no matter what mix they are find themselves quickly defined and categorized.

No, his mother was white. Can anyone remember this?

Only possible apology should be for slavery not for the war that was about ending it.Of course the civil war at its core was about slavery. That had been the issue tearing at the union for decades ( basically from day one of the country). The right to own slaves was the "state right" the southern states were seeking to preserve.

No, and the war was not about slavery. It was about making the South join the Union.

NJ put in with the seceding south?????????????????????

We are taking New Jersey. Eventually the rest of states in that corner as well. The liberals will just have to move to California. ;)

I didn't vote for McCain either. The red states were the Democrats and that's the way they should have stayed. Because they are Socialist Communist.

Are you sure those citizens in those states share your beliefs? Or would you have to "purge" the populace?

They will want to join. We will restore the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

For the people who don't care to join the new South...Frankly my dear.... :hatsoff:
