To be fair, I think there are two issues here.
1. Was it a poor choice accepting that money? I would say yes, particularly if he doesn't subscribe to the same belief set.
but
2. I think jumping from his acceptance of the money to "Obama hates soldiers" is a bit of an overreaction.
My personal take, is that most if not all politicians see money as money, not as a representation of an ideology. Admittedly, that isn't much of a defense of any sort, but it sort of reflects our political system. Bush took money from controversial people, as did Clinton before him, and George H.W. Bush before him, and so on. It's an unfortunate reminder of the present state of American politics, but it's reality. It's not a partisan issue either, and to be honest, I grow quite tired of the mudslinging between people who cite the right or left as their rationale for everything. The politician who does see donations as a manifestation of idiologies and ideals would probably be the first person elected with 100% of the popular and electoral vote. But I'm not quite sure that'll happen, and as a result, one of these types of stories seems to pop up every 6 months or so.
