Obama, politics and the border

Well, he's already done more than any other POTUS on the issue.

President Barack Obama will deploy up to 1,200 National Guard troops to help secure the Southwest Border against Mexican drug cartels, White House officials said Tuesday.

Obama also is requesting that Congress approve $500 million for enhanced border protection and law enforcement activities as part of an emergency spending bill expected to come to the Senate floor this week.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, Texas Gov. Rick Perry and a bipartisan group of border state lawmakers in Congress have been urging Obama to send in National Guard troops to respond to the high-profile violence along the U.S.-Mexico border. More than 20,000 Mexicans have died in drug-related violence, and Arizona law enforcement officials have complained of increased home-invasion robberies and other crime in the state's border towns.

Perhaps but it is not enough. The human and drug smuggling is really bad here and looks like it is only going to get worse. They keep busting drop houses here, but it is only a small amount.

There has also been an increase in home invasions which they claim is from illegal immigration, but who knows :dunno:

All hail the FO Cult Mother!
the powers at the top do not want to close the borders in fact The North American Union deal that Bush signed while he was in office pretty much proves this, the goal is to combine The US, Canada and Mexico into one, sad but true :(

I don't think the G-spot exists!
this has been an issue for the last 30 years, but no one has done anything.....why do you think that is
(same knee-jerk reactionary effect that 'drugs', 'abortion', and gun rights keep popping up)

Under Obama, the U.S. has more border patrol agents on the border with Mexico than ever and this started under Bush and Obama has continued the increase

Deportations have also increased under Obama

THIS. Not to mention most immigrants vote Democrat, so both US parties pretty much look the other way on the issue. Meanwhile, the average citizen is being ignored. Drugs, violence, human smuggling all continue to multiply. :dunno:

True. But since it's nearly impossible to determine what constitutes 'enough', it's hard to reasonably argue he's done less or ignored the issue when he's actually done more than any other.:2 cents:

Now simply doing more doesn't mean a person is actually addressing the issues. But he's doing what the people who are supposedly more knowledgeable on the issue (Brewer and Perry) are asking.

If the strategy doesn't work then he's only giving them what they said would work theoretically.

in the future, living in the US might feel very similar to living in East Germany during the early 1940s

You mean East Germany (DDR) after 1945.

Well as long as the special interest has the bigger voice us normal citizens will continue to suffer.

The US has no problem bringing immigrants in, as long as they come in properly!! I mean most if not all of our grand parents or great grand parents that came to this country from Europe came in using the proper means of the time.

People coming in illegally and expecting us to take care of them is killing us finacially, we can't afford to do this anymore!! The only immigrants I don't have a problem with are those seasonal ones that come in, work the fields and orchards, make their money and then go back to Mexico with more than enough money to live on til the next season to work!!

I'm so great I'm jelous of myself.
the border with mexico is damn near 2000 miles long and the border with canada is about 1500 miles long...so leaving alone the canada border that's still 2000 miles of land border to observe, protect, and control (leaving aside those that may come by boat, submarine, plane, etc) so the concept of sealing the borders it fear-good issue but practically an impossibility, the true cure (which is perhaps equally impossible) is the elimination a reason to cross the border...the best solution would seem to be a combination of policing the border and decreasing the benefits of border crossing

Hiliary 2020
I think anyone making over 200,000 dollars a year should be forced to adopt a mexican family.
pay for its housing, medical, education , food,,,,,,the whole enchilada.

just do it now and get it over with.

so many illegals, so many illegals.
seems the only way they will be stopped is if the citizens form theyre own "clean and sweep" groups, make citizens arrests and drop them off at the local PD.

Well, if he spent more, he would have to take critic that he is spemding money needed in other areas, so it's impossible to mak everybody all happy

And as for the home invasions - is that empty homes or foreclosed ones? Because due to the burst of the home credit bubble since 2007, a large number of us-americans ost their houses.... if I were one of them, I might go and find me an empty house to squat in, too

Legalize drugs, enforce the border and stop sending guns into Mexico.

This a two way issue these days not just illegals and crime.
