America is really not going anywhere fast right now. It's hard to tell what's going to work and how much longer we will be the super power of the world. China is going to take this spot, but they won't be able to take us over due to it causing so many problems. Just my 2 cents.

But you GOTTA love how when GOPers "spend"...we hear things like "ohhh, percentage of GDP blah, blah, blah..." Which is technically a well shaped argument....But the convenience of when they choose to trot it out is what's most amusing...

When Demos "spend" according to GOPers we're mortgaging our children's future...an argument that's been made since the '40s when we first incurred debt. To lend some perspective to that suggestion....we are the grand and great grand children of THOSE children spoke of and the US still hasn't seemed to go to hell in a hand basket as asserted precisely because of the case for percentage of GDP, etc.

So when you hear arguments like mortgaging our children's future...call bullshit.:bs:

Somebody explain whats wrong with this to me.

We are going to invest in brazilian oil production so we can get some oil from them.China doing same thing. We both need oil which is why both countries are doing it.We like brazil more than mid east countries or venezuala I thought.

Somehow I think for some people anything the current govt does is corrupt and to be denounced.Obama ,others just can't get a fair shake or any objectivity. His name is attached to it so attack it.

I think we have to have more conservation and nuclear power etc but no doubt we are going to be reliant on oil and consuming a lot for long time to come.Getting what we can from Brazil sounds like good idea.:dunno:

But I forget its Obama the closet commie radical who wants to control your life and nationalize everything.:1orglaugh

Like I said earlier....the only "rat" smelling is likely the thing a half inch south of the OP's nose.

No "there" there IMO.

Clearly it would be another issue altogether had we objected so vehemently to the Brazilian bikini wax that we decided regime change was necessary in order to get put in place a government more favorable to our oil interests....

Wow...a nearly completely incoherent post!
WTF did you just try to say...no,wait, never mind; I've probably heard it before in a more understandable form on a completely different subject.

If drilling for oil is a good thing to do, it would seem a better idea to spend on drilling into our own oil supplies instead of creating another oil supplier to give billions to, and set them up as a policy dictator like the Islamic suppliers we use too much now.
Eh? Anyone not busy chanting Obama's name see the simple logic to that?

Well the latter part was sarcasm so obvious that I didn't think most with a smidgen of common sense would need it further identified as such.

But the joke was us using some irrelevant beef with Brazil as justification for replacing their government with one favorable to our oil interests.

If the logic is so simple...why did GWB follow a policy which sent American companies to other hemispheres to explore for oil?:tongue::D

Aren't a lot of the areas of U.S. supply in which we could drill oil barred by Environmentalist and government policy?

Who's gonna fight it??? IMF is saying recession nearly over; production figures UP in France and Germany; USA Consumer sentiment UP (today); Bernanke reappointed (today); Obama speaking positive about economy :yahoo: (today)...Like Houdini, they did it and they got away with it. Recession Over:clown:.

Yes but the reason there are off limits is much more NIMBY(not in my back yard) then anything along with other economic interests.Florida for example does not want off shore drilling due to the fear of oil on their beaches ruining their tourism biz. That biz amounts to a lot more revenue then oil ever would. And nobody in america it seems is willing to have a nuclear power plant near them, wind farm, or just about anthing else similar. We want our cake and want to eat it too.

Drilling here would be fine with me, Alaska or anywhere else. You just have to again get the locals to agree to it.But lets not kid ourseleves that if we got everybody to allow drilling everywhere we would really put a dent in our need for imports. Most of our reserves have been tapped already and are pumping oil and we do only have about 3% of the worlds oil(which is a lot actually) but consume like 33% of all the oil produced in the world.

We really need to get over the nimby thing and build nuclear which could produce a large amount of energy.Wind farms too but nukes are the key.

OK, so Soros drops in some 800 odd million dollars
and The President is in with our 10 billion... what are we to make of this ?

The economy is in shambles yet the president cannot bring himself to "invest in America" unless it entails government occupation. :hammer: :dunno:

I smell rats ! :1orglaugh

The president did invest in America (you know, that stimulus thing) and that was greeted with cries of "SOCIALISM!!!!" -- The president wants to "fix" healthcare and that's been greeted with cries of "SOCIALISM." The president is on vacation now and that, too, will be greeted with some sort of cry of "SOCIALISM" probably with some sort of attack like: "See, this president has no real 'Amuricun' work ethic. He takes vacations just like the Socialists"

To put it bluntly, if we can *spend* a cheap sum of money $10bil, to a "friendly" country to develop oil and bring it to market for us to consume, then it's not a bad policy. The problem is Obama will be out of office by the time we see any of this oil and it just prolongs the inevitable. We need to move to some sort of green, sustainable fuel, and this doesn't do that. It *may* bring the price of oil down to "cheap" levels, somewhere down the road.

Yes but the reason there are off limits is much more NIMBY(not in my back yard) then anything along with other economic interests.
Yes, this is the real answer. The full-throated Drill Baby Drill Palinista Tea Bag crowd is quick to tell us that we should drill at home, as long as "home" means in some other state...

We seem to be off of our quest to go GREEN and I guess we'll "get serious" when the next election cycle comes around and gas is back at $4/gal here?:dunno:

Some day you will be singing:"Oh Daddy O, Daddy O where do we go? Don't tell us that were going in some shitty situation like Waterloo. Shame on yo Daddy O! Daddy O, you the best representative of the poor and people of the ghetto."
Sorry if my sarcasm and my humor are bit a sharp against Daddy O, but I can't do anything but only laugh about Obama.
