I would like to see Obama detractors make real, cogent arguments instead of accusing him of being a socialist/Marxist, accusing him of lying without anything to substantiate the claims, questioning his patriotism, questioning his integrity, questioning his academic achievements, questioning his religion, or questioning his place of birth. I don't have a problem with people that don't like Obama, but I do have a problem with people that have to make things up to justify their feelings. I know, I know, the left did it to Bush, and it wasn't justifiable then, either, but, Bush did take office after a closely contested election that took intervention by the Supreme Court to settle, a unique situation in the history of American politics. Obama won two elections outright, it wasn't even close, so there's really no justification for the bitter feelings the right harbored after being fairly defeated in consecutive campaigns.

he made comments applauding the attack in Oklahoma City and that's what got George HW Bush to resign his lifetime membership in the NRA because he was so disgusted by it ,as one of his Secret Service agents died in that attack

From the new York times
Following is the letter of resignation sent last week by former President George [H.W.] Bush to the National Rifle Association: May 3, 1995

Dear Mr. Washington,

I was outraged when, even in the wake of the Oklahoma City tragedy, Mr. Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of N.R.A., defended his attack on federal agents as “jack-booted thugs.” To attack Secret Service agents or A.T.F. people or any government law enforcement people as “wearing Nazi bucket helmets and black storm trooper uniforms” wanting to “attack law abiding citizens” is a vicious slander on good people.

Al Whicher, who served on my [ United States Secret Service ] detail when I was Vice President and President, was killed in Oklahoma City. He was no Nazi. He was a kind man, a loving parent, a man dedicated to serving his country — and serve it well he did.

In 1993, I attended the wake for A.T.F. agent Steve Willis, another dedicated officer who did his duty. I can assure you that this honorable man, killed by weird cultists, was no Nazi.

John Magaw, who used to head the U.S.S.S. and now heads A.T.F., is one of the most principled, decent men I have ever known. He would be the last to condone the kind of illegal behavior your ugly letter charges. The same is true for the F.B.I.’s able Director Louis Freeh. I appointed Mr. Freeh to the Federal Bench. His integrity and honor are beyond question.

Both John Magaw and Judge Freeh were in office when I was President. They both now serve in the current administration. They both have badges. Neither of them would ever give the government’s “go ahead to harass, intimidate, even murder law abiding citizens.” (Your words)

I am a gun owner and an avid hunter. Over the years I have agreed with most of N.R.A.’s objectives, particularly your educational and training efforts, and your fundamental stance in favor of owning guns.

However, your broadside against Federal agents deeply offends my own sense of decency and honor; and it offends my concept of service to country. It indirectly slanders a wide array of government law enforcement officials, who are out there, day and night, laying their lives on the line for all of us.

You have not repudiated Mr. LaPierre’s unwarranted attack. Therefore, I resign as a Life Member of N.R.A., said resignation to be effective upon your receipt of this letter. Please remove my name from your membership list.*Sincerely, [ signed ] George Bush

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
:dunno: There's a reason he's gotten an "F" from the Brady Campaign. No one from the Right will ever acknowledge this though, since using Obama as a boogeyman has been a windfall for gun sales and the NRA. Secretly he's probably every informed NRA member and gun dealer's favorite person on the planet these days. You may recall that Obama-fear led to gun stores the country over selling out of ammunition.

I will absolutely agree, the NRA whore fear, to make money, and move their agenda along. Having said that, if you're going to use, "he lets people carry in national parks" and "he allowed people to transport guns in CHECKED, INACCESSIBLE luggage", that's not being a friend to gun owners...that's not taking away RIGHTS, we have, under the Constitution, that should have NEVER even been an issue. If you're stupid enough to go into a national park, where you may run into grizzly bears, without a firearm...you deserve to die, and become food. If you are so naive to think that the brady campaign would give ANYONE, higher then an "F", if they didn't basically confiscate, and destroy ALL private weapons, you're a fool. The brady campaign is is just as bad, if not worse then the NRA....in fact THEY ARE worse, because they seek to destroy Constitutional rights, and have a proven record of lying unscrupulously, to achieve their goals.

No, he HASN'T done more for gun owners...he just hasn't gotten away with fucking us. Look at his Senatorial record, listen to his campaign speeches. The article even states he promised gun control...he just couldn't pull it off, put I will bet my last dollar, he's still trying. If he wanted to "DO" for the gun owners...he would have repealed "The Federal Firearms Act of 1934"...that's showing support for gun owners. He would have done things like, make Federal laws, that make California, and Illinois State laws, null and void...he just reluctantly gave us what WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO. PERIOD!

And for the record, I NEVER said he was taking away our guns, nor did I say he would be able too, within the time frame of his last term. I called him a "gun grabber", which he is...just like biden, and billary. This whole exchanged is based SOLELY, on the fact that I labeled someone...I believe correctly...and, someone felt a need to over react, and start shit, as that person ALWAYS does. God forbid, anyone should disagree, or question, or not submit to the ideals, wills, and opinions of the all knowing, and great one.

Now, there are PLENTY of gun threads to discuss this in...I would prefer not to be the hijacker of this thread...I'm done with this subject, in this thread.

every time Sarah Palin and Glen Beck and Hannity and Rush and Laura Ingraham would shriek on their shows about Obama coming to get our guns, sales would go up and NRA funding would go up. But there had not been a single mention of gun control until an elementary school full of kids were shot and killed by a fucking mental midget.

The sick part is that the right is against extended background checks. How could anyone who only wants legit gun owners be against them? They say it's a violation of their privacy to have to get a license to purchase a firearm, yet they don't seem to bitch about a license to go fishing or hunting or to drive a car. What's the difference other than one can be tucked in your waist and used to murder a school full of kids and one can't??

What is the fucking argument against extended background checks? Why continue to allow gun shows to sell guns to anyone felon or lunatic? what is the harm if you really ONLY want guns in the hands of hunters and competent people?

Because legit gun owners aren't the ones that do that shit, and the ones that due, usually get the guns illegally. Not gun shows, but stolen, off the books kind of purchases. Kind of like that little AK snafu you bragged about in a different thread. You remember that don't you?

Where did you get that impression? The Democratic base is extremely diverse.
Just look at the pictures that Dino Velvet posted, the truth is too hurtful, ain't it? As far as I remember an overwhelming percentage of the minorities voted for Obummer, so yes he represents them before representing the whites, it is a fact.

the Sandy hook guns were legally bought. his mom bought him the guns. the columbine shootings were legal guns they got from their parents and the kids bought the ammo themselves at walmart.

So basically the guns were stolen from the rightful owners. Or would you prefer to say borrowed.

Conspiracy...
Robyn Anderson, a friend of Klebold and Harris, bought the shotguns and the Hi-Point 9mm Carbine at The Tanner Gun Show in December of 1998. Klebold and Harris bought the TEC-DC9 from a pizza shop employee named Mark Manes, who knew they were too young to purchase the assault pistol, but nevertheless sold it to them for $500.

the guns were accessible from the legal owners by people within their households. if your daughter took your car out for a drive without asking would you call it borrowing or stealing counselor? call the cops on her? yeah I thought not.
