Obama to address immigration reform

President Barack Obama will present plans for immigration reform this year, Hispanic lawmakers said Wednesday after strategic talks at the White House.
Obama "was clear and eloquent and determinate to let us know that we are all together in the route of comprehensive immigration reform," Democratic lawmaker Luis Gutierrez told reporters after the discussion between the president and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC).

We believe that we are moving forward this year, we are going to work with the president," added CHC leader Nydia Velazquez.

Obama will convene a public forum on the issue "probably in two months," according to New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez.

The White House said in a statement that the meeting was "robust and strategic" and that Obama will work with CHC members to address immigration reform "in both the short and long term."

Two legislative measures to reform immigration failed to gain traction in Congress in 2006 and 2007, as lawmakers grappled with the task of addressing the 12 million undocumented would-be immigrants in the United States.

In the meeting CHC members made "absolutely clear that this is the civil rights issue of our community and that we will all be judged on how we act on this issue," added Gutierrez.

Million undocumented would-be immigrants??? Good god the use of PC words. They are illegals. They should go through the Naturalization process like ALL other immigrants. They are already receiving special treatment. What next?

Civil rights issue? They have no rights! They are not citizens!!!

I can't wait to see how the American Taxpayer will get screwed in the coming months.

One thing that's bothered me: if all the illegal Hispanics are coming to America, why do we as native born, English speaking Americans take Spanish classes in schools or work? They are coming HERE to America, we're not going to Mexico or anywhere else. I speak English in this country, as does almost every single American born in the country. If they want to have liberties or citizenship, knock it off with the fucking Spanish and learn some god damn English.

If the illegals want to be in America, then they should become naturalized, just like the hundreds of thousands of immigrants they came before them.

Let me ask you this, say you came from, oh any country OTHER than Mexico, and went through Naturalization and became a Citizen. Then found that illegal Mexicans were gaining special treatment just because of the shear volume of them border jumping. Wouldn't you feel, oh, a little cheated?

If I, an English speaking person, goes to Spain so I can live there, but I never try and learn Spanish, people aren't going to adjust their lives and adapt to ME and MY language. They are going to make me adjust to them, their culture and their language.

But, if a Spanish speaking person comes to America so they can live here, but they never try and learn English, people think that American's are assholes if we don't adapt to THEM and THEIR language. We are bad people if we don't adjust to them, their culture and their language.
