Obama to do away with the "Don't ask, don't tell" in military

President Barack Obama pledged to end the ban on homosexuals serving openly in the military in a speech Saturday, but acknowledged to a cheering crowd that the policy changes he promised on the campaign trail are not coming as quickly as they expected.

That's good news!

Pussy, pussy, where are you?
I respect what soldiers do for us but there is no way in hell that I would want to be one of them. That takes tons of courage and I would not be up for the task. Now if someone, regardless of their sexual preference, actually WANTS to go over there, well then why not let them?

Even the present Military Brass want Don't Ask, Don't Tell to go away. This is really a no brainer for Obama and basically "low fruit" for him...

yeah, its actually a violation of the 1st, clear as day.
I mean whats next, I cant say that i like albino transvestite pygmys with purple hair?
but if they do do away with it, will they now have to create seperate gay and lesbian showers restrooms and living quarters?

I'm touching myself right now!

That makes no sense, they're gay, not lepers -- why even bring up sharing living quarters and restrooms? They already do so at the moment, the issue is the military requires them to remain "in the closet" in order to serve. They've even discharged gay military members who were Arabic translators just because they came out, it's just not right.

Oh shucks i don't know, why do they seperate males and females?
cause guys dont lift the seat?
I thought it was because of sexual attraction mostly.
so for example if a guy who likes guys is with guys in the guys shower , couldnt that cause a problem ?
you say no, ok ill take your word for it.

nothingandless

I don't know and frankly I don't care.
1st of all, that was just a speech to get gays to vote for him.
2nd, who gives a fuck?
3rd, if a fag is more apt with a sniper rifle, but may be beaten for being so, why advertise?
4th, i don't actually know anything.

I have a question: What exactly is so bad about "Don't ask, don't tell"?

I can't remember who said it, but if a homosexual says he wants to join the army and put his life on the line for his country, who is America to say no? I have met several gays and lesbians during my service and in Afghanistan who were exceptional soldiers, and were professional in every way. If a homosexual wants to join the army, then I say let them. They deserve to kill and die just like every other soldier.

Under "don't ask, don't tell" military personnel may be summarily discharged from service for intentionally or unintentionally conveying their orientation...

Like you said, there are individuals who perform honorably and it's fairly well known by those who they serve with that they are likely gay....and most don't care. Those individuals should not have to carry the burden of having their military careers ended simply for saying what everyone who serves with them already knows and mostly don't care about.:2 cents:

I gets it. I had a feeling that was the problem with it. Having to hide your sexual orientation would no doubt be hard.

I don't understand why they do not allow homosexuals in the military in the first place. Gays are not stupid. A gay man (The majority, anyway) wouldn't attempt to seduce a man or act outlandish in an office building. Likewise, the majority of gay men will not do so in the army. They know when they sign up what is expected of them; they are expected to act professionally when they are in uniform. They are not going to say something stupid like, "I can't shoot him; he's too gorgeous!"; they will do their job, just like every other soldier.

I dunno what the big deal is. We've had gays in the military all along. Ever heard of the "Broadway Brigade?" :nannerf1:

See No...Hear No (previous)....sound and affirmative policy change :)

Has to do with the whole good order, conduct unbecoming and military bearing thing.

The fear obviously has been those who are flamboyantly gay engaging in activity that is unbecoming and inconsistent with the image of the military AND the military having no recourse to stop it. Ergo, "don't ask, don't tell". Which basically said, we're not going to seek out whether your are or not but don't be flamboyant and embarrass the military. What became of it was a method of selective persecution though.

The don't ask don't tell policy was always kind of stupid. You have people that are trained and presumed mature and honorably enough to aim a gun and take somebody else's life in the name of their country, people that are supposed to be held to a higher standard than a normal citizen, people that are supposed to be strong enough mentally to willingly put their lives at risk, people that are supposed to put aside religious, ethnic, racial, gender, and pretty much any other difference for a common cause, and people that are supposed to represent the best of what we are. It kind of pathetic for any of them to say after all of that they just don't want to go on because they might have to be next to somebody that's homosexual and they essentially think they might get cooties by being close to them.

But if there are already gays in the military who haven't told the rest of the force they're gay, what difference is it going to make once they're allowed to do so? Do you think once homosexuals are allowed to tell those around them that they are in fact gay without fear of the repercussions, that they will drop the "fake" soldier persona and are automatically going to turn into campy stereotypical version of a homosexual who starts flailing around the showiers and screeching with joy at the first sign of a cock?

Other than allowing those who wish to disclose their sexual orientation without fear of being kicked out. This act will not change a thing.
