To be honest I did get a bit of respect for him after I saw that he'd requested a combat assignment.
He was lucky to fly A4s - there's nowt wrong with that bird.
A bit of quick research on him doesn't seem to indicate that he was shot down 5 times - looks like I got the wrong guy, silly me.
