I can only guess that it's because the others are much smaller countries with smaller underequipped armies, if they had tried to fight the Germans they would have been massacred. France had built up a huge and powerful army leading up to WW2 along with strategic defences so I guess people expected them to be more of a match for Germany, maybe they could physically but not mentally :dunno:
