Omaha, NE - Tragedy struck on Tuesday night when Bryce Dion, 38, was shot and killed during a Wendy’s robbery that occurred near 43rd and Dodge Street.

Dion was a sound technician with the TV show “Cops,” and officers witnessed what appeared to be a robbery in progress. Police stated that the suspect had what appeared to be a gun, and a shootout ensued. Unfortunately, all 30 shots that were fired, were fired from police officers guns.

It was later stated by Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer that the suspects gun was in fact an airsoft gun, but it looked and sounded real.

Robbery suspect Cortez Washington, 32, was also shot, and died after being transported to Nebraska Medical Center.

I can understand perforating the suspect under the circumstances, but what kind of fucking situational awareness are they teaching in Omaha? 30 shots and no return fire? Where is their fire discipline? I know I never would give someone the opportunity to squeeze off a round in my direction but after firing thirty rounds they would've thought things were kind of sketchy.

Too bad about Bryce Dion, though. He really got Blue Falconed.

Considering how long the show has been on, it's a wonder he was the first one killed. Not because of "friendly" fire but car accidents going to the scenes, etc., which also kills a lot of officers as well. I also thought the COPS crew was instructed to where to be if an event did happen. Most of the time the crew shows up after a room is cleared or just after a situation like this has occurred. Sad no matter how it happened. Maybe this will make not only the rest of COPS' staff but from other shows more aware of the inherent danger they are in. Sometimes you let your guard drop, and when that happens mistakes are made.

They used to train cops to fire two rounds, center mass, and if that didn't work, repeat. It seems some of these guys are hell bent on going through a whole mag. I never have a problem, when an officer has to fire his weapon for justifiable reasons....but many times I do have an issue with the number of rounds discharged. I realize adrenaline is pumping, but they train for that, and should be a lot more aware of how many times they're squeezing the trigger.
