I'm running Gentoo Linux at home and at work. My home machine dual boots into Win2k as well, but I only use it for games.

It's a source-based distribution. Basically, it downloads everything as source code and compiles it on your machine.

It takes a fair bit of time to install it and get it set up, but once you do it, you'll know a lot about your computer and your OS. And the support forums are very good and very helpful.

I've found that it's very easy to get software for it, because it's all compiled on the spot for your machine, so you don't have to worry about versions and dependency hell.

Girls don't like me.
I use XP Pro, I've used Linux/Unix in the past but always got on better with windows. Seeing as I'm an ASP developer it kinda makes sense to use an MS operating system :)

When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.
Mac OSX... probably moreso because I'm in the publications business... and my college matriculation took place during that whole "industry standard" thing. I was also raised in Silicon Valley (Sunnyvale, California), so access to Apple and Mac has always been a part of my education. I don't really have a preference. I'm to the point where an operating system is just another operating system. There are two Windows computers in my home as well. As long as the applications run and the documents can be converted, it's all good.

Definitely the way to go if you can find it. That was before Microsoft started adding all kinds of junk to the OS.

Please don't ban me!
Windows 2000Pro, I've been thinking of switching over to Linux. But I guess that'll be when I buy a new computer, we'll see.
