You're right, they shouldn't be closed, and the republicans shouldn't have shut down the rest of the government, either. What would you be saying if some asshole went in there and vandalized the memorial during this shutdown? I can only imagine you would be blaming Obama. I haven't said that republicans will never win the White House again. I've voted long enough to know that the political winds are fickle. Cruz is a far-right social conservative, something you've said you don't agree 100% with. I'm just curious if you're willing to side with Cruz out of spite for Democrats, even when there should be more moderate republicans that you more closely identify with.

That is my biggest hot button issue. Let Elizabeth Warren keep every issue that I disagree with her on and if she became a pitbull against spending I would vote for her too. I'm very much for restricting spending, too, but how far does it go for you? Restrict all military expenditures outside the country? Recall all troops? Delay needed improvements to the national highway system? Mandate how government contracts are acquired?

Cruz is a social conservative ideologue, that's why Texas sent him to the Senate. Give him time, his true far-right social conservative agenda will come out, just don't be surprised when it does. How does Ted Cruz prioritize the cuts in spending he wants to make?

I think you are going to be surprised by Cruz. The talk behind the scenes is that he duped the Tea Party into throwing their weight behind him. I think he is after entitlement spending. Obama will have to decide if it is worth the fight. This is Obama's last stand. If he doesn't win some things next November, he may end up being a liability in 2016.

I think there are military cuts that can be made. Just not ready to go tit for tat against entitlements. Especially when defense is required. Hnw much was never specified so I have some ideological wiggle room.
