I just watched a program on PBS that said every American is either an immigrant or the descendant of an immigrant. Some kind of country, huh?

Unless your one of a few tribes of native people in a very small section of Sub-Saharan Africa everybody in the world is from immigrants. It doesn't mean people should just go where they want.

I don't really give a fuck about nanci pelosi, but to be fair you are taking what she said a little out of context. she didn't say she was in favor of illegal immigration, or that illegal immigration laws themselves are "un-american". she said she is opposed to the way that the laws are enforced- as in using swat-like tactics which are not used in any other instances that aren't considered a public safety risk (and just because philbert thinks every illegal fruit picker is a rapist and armed robber doesn't cut it for that criteria). Agree or not, but it's not exactly the same thing.

Sorry, that is a demonization of the reality.

You have 53% of violent crime going on in Phoenix which are at the hands of illegal aliens. You have several state and federal laws not actually being enforced.

At some point, there will be local enforcement that will enforce the law. And guess what? The one, particular, local sheriff people like Pelosi keeps demonizing has never been found guilty of exceeding his authority, using tactics that violate even an American citizen's Constitutional rights, etc...

In fact, the most insulting part of all this political rhetorical, and that's what it is, rhetoric, is that because they can't "get him" on legal charges, they are making it political at a federal level. As he said himself, "why don't they wait for the results of the latest, federal investigation of me." No, federal hearings will "find the truth" --er, "truth" as they want it because they can't acknowledge the "truth."

The answer is simple. The sheriff continues to do no wrong. He is enforcing the law that the state and federal governments do not want to. This is a political load of bullshit. And until the left-fucking-wingers stop making it about gaining votes and pleasing illegals and the voters who are part of the problem, it won't ever get solved.

And people like this brave sheriff will continue to fight within the law, within the powers granted, within the concern for the average, tax paying citizen and their safety, and he will continue to be demonized. But they will never find wrongdoing. That's because he knows the law.

Better than Pelosi and most people who hear the demonizations of the real story. He's not popular with the local people because their all bigots. He's popular, because it's a fucking mess. And they are in the thicket of it, unlike Pelosi and the mega-left-fucking-wingers that are pro-illegal immigration. Just look at the list of people calling for the hearings.

So you're an American citizen. Does your original comparison make any sense then? Shouldn't you have asked what's the difference between an immigrant and an *illegal* immigrant? The answer is: not much. Both immigrants and illegal immigrants pay taxes, avoid committing crimes, go to church and come to the U.S. because of economic opportunity. Most immigrants, legal or illegal, would rather stay in their *home* country and have intentions to return someday.

How that bitch got into such a powerful position is beyond me.

Yes, but they were LEGAL immigrants who didn't receive any government benefits and freebees. They also worked their asses off for a good life here!

And many of them didn't live very long and died here because there were no worker protections. There weren't any gov't services either. No healthcare. No public health concerns. There were jobs here and there was no religious persecution. Although there was certainly racism and bigotry. Women couldn't vote. Neither could nonwhites. What happened to all the Chinese workers that were brought over in the 19th cent. to build the railroad? What happened to them anyway?:dunno:

I think there are millions of Irish and German immigrants who would beg to differ with that statement. Ellis Island immigration workers were pretty notorious for sending people back across the Atlantic if they so much as suspected any sort of sickness, mental or otherwise, and with the state of medicine at that point, that could entail anything.

I agree, and can't really argue that we are all immigrants at some point, there's a pretty marked difference between the immigration system then and now. Pre-21st century, the vast majority of immigrants came to America through either San Francisco or New York, both of which had established immigration centers. Now, that's not the case, as illegal immigration is a sizable proportion of total immigration. There's really no arguing that illegal immigration has always existed, however today it's a bigger deal primarily because there are so many of them.
