personal issue: what do you think.

I got a personal thing and I was wondering what some of my associates at freeones think on the matter.

Some of you know I am from USA but currently living and working in Colombia.

Next month I will be moving to a more middle class part of the city, I need a change of scenery.
But for the past 18 or so months I have been living in expensive part of the city, so to help myself out financially i have been renting out one of the bedrooms to foriegners mostly from the USA.
Colombians live with mommy until theyre 40 so they never inquire about renting the room.
There is a university real close by, so I originally figured I'd rent out the room to foriegn students here to learn spanish.

So in the past almost 2 years all I have gotten were people in 2 categorys.
Older guys that look like hell from years of not taking care of themselves who are here for 1 thing, the hookers.
And hermits. Normal looking guys but who just lock themselves in the room 24 hours a day.

I've rented the room to about 12 people so far. all from the US thay ALL have several things in common, and its got me bafled:
#1 they are all filthy, hardly ever shower and live in their own garbage.
It sucks I gotta tell grown men not to leave food laying out and to clean up after themselves

#2 they almost all have the attitude like they know everything.
You say one thing to them and they cop an attitide, Like "who the fuck are you to tell me to wash my dishes after 2 days in the sink"

The whoremongers I don't let stay here, I don't ever let hookers in the house.
Ive kicked out a few on the spot for bringing hookers to the apt.
So mostly I just get the hermits. Why do people come to another country just to lock temselves in a room with a computer?
Ok I am rambling, Its just that almost all that have rented or looked at the room are basically scumbags. So I wonder If this is a reason why many non US people don't like Americans.
Are we know a society filled with fuck-ups and screw-heads?

i lived in morocco for a while and from the french people that emigrate there i have learned one thing: these are people who failed to do well in their own environment, so they come to a third world country to play the bigshot. none of them are normal, otherwise they wouldn't be in fucking colombia, looking to rent a room.

Why do people come to another country just to lock temselves in a room with a computer?

I can think of a few reasons.

1. It's not that they want to be there as much as they don't want to be where they came from. Maybe they are getting away from something or just don't like the place they came from. Maybe there wasn't a whole lot of options or they are more knowledgeable about where are they are living now and that's why they didn't go somewhere else.

2. Maybe they have a reason to be there or their is some business or other financial issue there for them, but they don't want to be there or they don't want to take the effort to familiarize themselves with the area when it could be a lot of work or they just don't care about that in the first place.

3. They are idiots and don't make much sense or think logically.

4. They have a lot of money to blow and just don't care while they go around the world for the hell of it.

Well when you say none of them are normal, that seems to be the case.
Like I said either sex tourists or hermits.
So far none of them have had good hygiene either.
And yeah, alot of these guys re-invent themsleves here, like you said, play the bigshot.

In terms of cleanliness, I'd think that's more of a familial habit than a cultural one. But from my travels around the world recently, I've noticed that Americans in general are just much louder and out in the open than most international people.

I had to put up with housemates for a few years and it never ceased to amaze me how disgusting and lazy people can be. I don't think I ever had one who was properly housetrained, and I'm not an anal neat freak by any stretch of the imagination, just civilized. I truly hope I never again have to share a house with anybody but my wife and kid.

These slobs that you speak of that don't have self respect and live in their own garbage . . . I'm not saying that young people can't grow up to be responsible and productive adults after growing up in a single parent household but I challenge you to ask 'em unkempt types about their background and I bet that you'll find that most didn't have a positive influence for a father figure growing up. :2 cents:

shyd i think it is a family thing, their parents never tought them hygiene.

Mostly we are a society of worthless fucks. But the reason non-Americans hate us is because of what Bush did the past 8 years.

Some people are untidy, and some aren't. It has very little to do with culture or wealth. It's more about whether you had a mother/father giving you some old-fashioned discipline.

Anyway, this could sound very ignorant and stupid, but couldn't it be the drugs? I mean it's not like every coke sniffer is a party-dude with purple sun glasses.

Filth, bad attitude and isolating yourself in a dark apartment sounds suspicious enough. And when someone says Colombia I think cocaine. Sue me.

That, and what's already been said - people fleeing from their home country to act colonist-douche bag in some poor country.
