Ok, lets see how much of a geek I can make myself out to be!

Who here prefers a good old table top RPG to the flashy bits of consul and PC gaming? :) What systems do you play? What systems do you want to play but haven't for whatever reason? And, here's probably the geekiest of the geeky...who will admit to larping? :D

While I love World Of Warcraft, the guy at my old comic book store tried to get me into D&D. He hosted several games a week, as well as Warhammer and Magic: The Gathering. Sadly, I had a random work schedule and would have made an apperance like, once every 2-3 months, so I never went.

The secret ingredient? MY BALLS
They used to have gaming stores inside of the malls back in Cleveland, where people would gather and play those kind of games. It was funny to see how PACKED those stores always were. They had tables set up all inside the store itself and a bunch more set up in the isles.

I was talked into playing Warhammer or whatever its called once when I was a kid, I was so bored I almost cried :D

No offense :hatsoff: Well, you can guess that was the last time I ever played.....

:1orglaugh I remember all the "warhammer kids" would bring their "armies" into school and sit around a table lunchtimes and paint and then re-paint their armies. :rofl2:

Ok, I feel like a complete geek now. :1orglaugh At least I haven't bothered with Magic since high school and I never got the whole war gaming like Warhammer. It just seems like an awful lot of time and money to stand around and watch each other place your armies (at least that's what it looks like to me since it's insanely popular over here).

You think that's bad.... I got my ass handed to me in a game of Yugioh. I was pissed and went on a buying spree for those damn cards. I built my deck up and finally kicked this little kids ass!!!

I was happy... and then I realized how much money I spent on some shit I would never use again. :weeping:

When I was a kid we used to set up army men behind barricades and stuff...and then we'd take turns using rubber bands to shoot them down. We also used boxes of dominoes and we'd set them up, and we'd take turns sliding dominoes and trying to knock each other's "armies" down. We had Lincoln Log catapults and we'd use matchbox vehicles as war vehicles.
Of course there was also paper football way back before these kids turned it into some kind of tournament game. And we used to flip baseball cards down from the wall for ownership. We also played Battling Tops for lunch money. I don't remember anyone ever bringing wizard or hobbit men to school. We did play all kinds of paper and pencil sports games, though. And electric football. And tabletop hockey. I don't remember seeing any orcs or gnomes though. Except my Uncle Benny had a gnome on his front porch. We used to paint it and stuff.

I love RPGs. So far I have played DSA, Battlemech, Shadowrun and HeroQuest. The problem is that the friends with which I play it all live far away from me.
Warhammer seems to be very cool but I never played it, the prices are also quite horrendous.

Besides that, I also love card games like Star Munchkin ^^

I'm too lazy to set a usertitle.
By doing a quick estimate I think I have somewhere between 75-100 3rd and 3.5 addition d20 D&D and Star Wars books on my bookshelf, most of them from WotC but some from third party publishers also. I quit buying them some time ago and even then I just picked them up for cheap. I don't like what they did to 4th addition. From reading some things about it, it seems like they put too much emphasis on miniatures and tried to make it into a MMO disguised as a table to board game. In fact I looked through my Draconomicon book just to find some good pictures of dragons. I also have hundreds of dice. I'm am sorry to inform you I don't have any Call of Cthulhu books. I played earlier additions of D&D starting when I was four years old but I never bought any of that stuff.

I did play Magic the Gathering a bit wayyyyyyyyy back in school. I still have a lot of the cards though I haven't played in a long time. We used to play with no restriction unlike they do in tournaments in stuff. You can really screw people up good when you have a control deck with a couple of Time Walks added in.

I don't play any MMOs. I just don't have money or especially the time that I want to devote to them. Some people in my family really like World of Warcraft though.

I have some Mechwarrior stuff, and although it isn't really RPG as much as just table top gamming I have even more old Battletech stuff before they screwed around with that to.

As far as LARP goes, I have to admit. Even for me those people are a little too weird.

I haven't had a chance to play Battlemech, but I'm not so into Sci-fi settings. I did get to try my hand at Shadowrun last year and would play again if I had the chance, as well as Heroquest.

I only have the main Munchkin deck, but I also have the Munchkin d20 system. :D And I just bought Zombie Flux!

I've resisted 4th ed up until the convention I went to in January. I was a good sport and gave it a go, but the fact they got rid of bards (for now) irked me. And honestly, if I wanted to play an MMO, I'll just log into my account.

This past year I've really gotten into non-d20 systems, mainly one called Savage Worlds and I've been attempting to convert anyone I possibly can. There are tons of settings and I'm particularly partial to one called Necessary Evil which is a Super Villian game. Lots of fun since the Villians have to save Earth. ;-)

Live Action Role-Playing. Kinda where you dress up the part and go do stuff away from a tabletop. Kinda like when you go to Medieval Times or when you watch those people to reinact Civil War battles. Us geeks usually like to use foam weapons. I've heard that Denmark has more LARPers than anywhere else in the world.

Hrm personally I've played a plethora of RPG's of varying genre's from futuristic, historical to Fantasy.
To name some D&D, AD&D, Shadowrun, Cyberpunk, Call of Cthulu, Earthdawn, Midnight, Hero System (a Fantasy setting and a Post Apocalyptic setting).
Ahh munchkin an amusing concept. I know one of the authors of the Munchkins Guide to powergaming.

The Danes LOVE larping. I have a friend that writes and runs them on a regular basis and I got to be in his Steampunk larp when I first moved to Europe. That was a blast...big difference though is they're not so much into the boffer larping (the foam and laytex weapons) as the other EU countries.

I also played and later staffed one in Orlando for many years. It's just an excuse to show off your costuming abilities and beat the shit out of each other with foam weapons (stress relief!). :)

I'm considering writing a Paranoia LARP for a UK convention next January if I can rope some mates into helping staff it. That ought to be good for some giggles.

Funny enough, I was the owner and Mistress of the Brothel for the longest time in the larp. :1orglaugh
