Pirates of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Didn't want to lump this into the summer movie thread that's floating around here.

What was everyones opinion on the movie? As a fan of the previous films I liked this one a little bit better than At Worlds End. Loved Ian McShane as Blackbeard and Geoffrey Rush was once again great as Barbbosa, but the movie should have been a little longer to help shed some more light on Blackbeard and how he was the pirate that all pirates feared.

someone should make a good pirate movie (that isnt disney). maybe a nice dark one.

My cousin (film major at HI University) is in the film. They filmed a lot of the movie in Hawaii and then went to Australia, I believe.

they are boring, they suck actually other than being somewhat visually cool.

that is definitely a subject that has not yet been beaten into the earth and then brought back, remastered and recast with fancy special effects...anyway, the new POTC movie was probably one of the better in the series IMO

The 1st one was good, the 2nd one awful. Gave up after that.
Would be nice to have a pirate movie in which they actually act like pirates not going on silly magical quests.

I wish they would act more like classical fictional pirates than they do now.

As far as actual pirates go, there lives probably sucked for the most part and like a lot of things in real life if you had to make a story that accurately portrayed them it wouldn't be that great unless done extremely well.

I'll say I enjoy the PoTC movies visually. I like the fishmen, zombies, mermaids, fishmen, settings, costumes, creatures, ships, ect. But the plot and humor falls short to me, as well as the character development. Also one can only take so much of the repetitive swordfighting on beams and moving wheels or Jack Sparrow spinning on a rope. This movie was more or less the same thing.

I enjoyed the first one as an original premise, but the rest were meh. Still Ian McShane as Blackbeard was worth a see, I was a big Deadwood fan. I also like Geoffrey Rush's character. Give that man more roles. Give them both more roles. Fuck, Hollywood just isn't fair.
