Places To Live In California?

I was just curious if anyone here lived in California and if they would recommend it to others.

I currently live at home and work a good paying job. I am also running a small business on the side. So living at home is allowing me to save a lot of my money. In a couple more years I'll have enough banked to put a huge down payment on a home. I currently live in New Jersey but would never buy real estate here. The property taxes are brutal. So I was looking at Arizona but California is catching my interest.

Would anyone recommend California? Which parts? Or is California bad news?

Thanks

You could never pay me to live in Cali'. I like freezing my sack off in the coldest in the lower 48 6 months out of the year.

Sorry Facetious! ;)

i am a life long resident of CA, and i hate it here. I live in Imperial County where theres practically nothing to do and jobs are severely limited. As for the rest of the state, the only city id live in if i stayed here long term would be San Diego, its one of my favorite cities to be in.

I know CA is expensive and overrated. I was just wondering if there were any decent places to live. One of my good friends lives in San Francisco and I have family friends in Mountain View. I've been looking around at real estate prices and they are just insane. It seems like you can't get a decent place for less than half a million and would be a fixer upper.

At the same time half a million can buy you a mansion in Arizona.

I live in the OC. And for the same cost, I could have a house anywhere else that is 3-4 times bigger and with several acres of land.
Avoid California like the plague, the local governments suck, the state Government sucks even more. If you enjoy being taxed, driving on shitty roads, living under the threat of gangs and random inmates being released from prison then come on over.

From the sewage spills on the beaches to the potholes that swallow SUVs, it sucks.

Oh let's not forget that gas prices here are .25 to .50 cents higher than the rest of the nation and we have oil refinery here! Go to Nevada and get cheaper better gas, and not drive past a single oil well...

And if you enjoy the shooting sports, you'll be in Hell. One state over you can do anything you want, but here it's shit, crap, and turds rolled into one oppressive anti-gun legislature, that actually tried to ban ammo last year. Almost got away with it.

If you don't have a rock solid pre-nup, the butch-dyke evil bitch lawyers around here fuck over men left and right.
This state sucks. The weather does not make up for the shortfalls and everything else I have to deal with here.

Personally. I'd move to Arizona, New Mexico, or Texas if my Ex-Wife would give up custody. But she enjoys using my kid as a commodity.

California may be relatively expensive but it's NOT overrated by a long stretch.

Particularly So. Cal...when I hear (read) people bitching about their weather and then I go outside an the weather here is just fucking perfect....that alone is worth it (for me).

In So. Cal you're an hour or so away from virtually any lifestyle or personal scenery you want. Not many places where you can go lay on the beach one day then drive an hour or so away the next day and be on a mountain with whitecaps...or the dessert....

It's easy to take the weather here for granted...but just haul ass to Texas this time of year for a couple of days....Even as such...if you like it that hot...there are places like that here too that are 40 mins away.

There are places here where the climate is so consistent that there have been many times where I went a whole year without using my AC or heat.

If I wanted to treat myself to a mini-tourist spot...I could go right down the street to Disneyland and literally holdup there for a few days and actually act like I've come there like a visitor...I could do the same for Universal Studios..Knotts...etc, etc, etc...

The only real thing someone would have to get accustomed to is not being able to drink alcohol in nude bars and not being able to smoke in any bars...aside from that.. Depending on what type of lifestyle you wanted..quiet or noisy..it's here.

Your Regional So. Cal Ambassador...

Personally with respect to gang stuff....I think you could go your entire life here and rarely cross paths with gang activity.. Even if you went to areas known for gangs you don't really get fucked with unless you're there for that shit...:dunno:

I'm not really familiar with child custody laws but would it be cheaper for you to actually move to Arizona and just fly or travel to CA to visit your kids?

I've been to California - from LA to San Diego.

Loved it. I'd live there in a second.

I had tears in my eyes when I flew out.

No, I live a little further south from Santa Ana. When I was coming up in my industry, I had to go to spots where you could actually see what gang territory you were in, by tags on the street and the oh so pleasant MS13 marks on the wall. Especially at night that sucked... I've progressed enough that I don't have to do that anymore, thankfully.

But a lot of people, in order to have affordable housing in this state, unfortunately have to live in those gang infested areas. Cops will bust hookers because they can't run as fast or don't have guns, like the slingers or the bangers. Now the taggers.

I see...I can only imagine what it must be like to have to work the field in a service utility job in some of those areas...

But you must admit there are still places one can live on a modest salary but not have to worry about that...right?

Right now Cali is a pretty shitty place to live! I live in the wasteland called the Central Valley, nothing but meth heads, hicks and wannabe gang bangers!! There are no jobs around to speak of and whats a few miles down the road.....thats right Stockton!!! Woot!!

If you mean like Fresno...then I agree wholeheartedly ...easily the armpit of California...went there for business once and vowed never to return unless it was in a fully loaded tank for leveling the place...

I live in the Westwood section of LA. The closest thing I see to gang members are housekeepers and gardeners. It's expensive but it's also a very good area.

I live in the Bay Area. It's EXPENSIVE like a mother fucker here. However, as one of my coworkers who recently bought a house in San Francisco put it, buying property in SF is about the soundest investment you can make. There's no housing market bubble here. When the housing market took a shit a couple years ago and properties all over the country lost half of their value the housing market in SF stayed right where it was. It might've depreciated a little bit, but the loss was minimal. That said, everything is extremely expensive. Sales taxes are almost at 10%, gas is the most expensive in the country, and everything in general is expensive.
