Pocket computing like youve never seen

Prepare to be amazed, at the future of pocket/portable computing, take a look at this brief article composed mainly of pictures. This is a complete computer system, ie processor/memory,screen,keyboard nothing else is required or needs to be plugged in. Notice the distict lack of wires the whole thing operates via bluetooth.

Well I don't know for sure but I suspect a mouse maybe somewhat old technology as far as this is concerned. It will more likely be some form of touch screen technology to navigate without the need for mouse (which is quite clumsy technology if you think about it).

Yes just like the keyboard the screen requires some sort of surface to project onto. Remember this is still just concept to demonstrate that this sort of thing can be done.

"touch screen"?? Correct me if I'm mistaken but there is no "screen", right?

Now all they need is a heads up display that they can put into a pair of glasses in place of a monitor.

i think this is fake. even a small CPU (like an atom, or one of the MIPS designs) won't physically fit, and then you'd still need RAM, graphics, and projectors for the screen and keyboard. and then there's storage: a hard drive won't fit, and neither will a sufficiently large quantity of flash chips. if one could make all this so damn small, then pocket PCs, phones, and GPS systems would all be a lot smaller and thinner than they are, but they're not.
i'd be happily proven wrong on this, but i won't be.

If you wish to live wisely, ignore sayings including this one.

It's not fake, per say, it's just concept art and mock-ups. The first two pictures are clearly concept art, and the last few just show a physical model, which is to say a shell. There's no functionality in the product yet, it's far too early. All of those things could theoretically fit into a pen, but I think the idea is to wait for the technology to catch up with the idea.

Yep Shayd made exactly the point I was making earlier that this is still concept and NOT production, the technology is not beyond the realms of possibility. However we are probably at the stage with this where mobile computers (ie smart phone type devices) might have been say 5 years ago, nowadays these sorts of devices offer at least if not more computing power of their desktop predecessors.

I have definitely used the type of keyboard shown a couple of years ago at work, and although initially it seems a bit weird, it rapidly becomes second nature to use. A projection type display that is demonstarted is hardly science fiction either. What will be most important factor in any portable device of this type will undoubtedly be the battery capacity.

There's an actual product you can buy that is an actual light-projected keyboard - but its just that.

Yes I have used one connected to a pocket PC/PDA type device. Once you get used to the idea that unlike a conventional keyboard there is no key travel (obviously!) it is actually a very natural thing to use and surprisingly fast and accurate.
