Political Compass

ilovehs

I should probably read the Board Rules...
Just thought I'd like to show you guys an interesting political quiz. www.politicalcompass.org BTW, check out where they placed Obama. Here's my results:
Economic Left/Right: -4.88 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.10
http://politicalcompass.org/printablegraph?ec=-4.88&soc=-4.10

It seems pretty accurate. I'm pretty leftist, but not a commie. I once tried becoming Libertarian, but I realized that laissez-faire wasn't for me. So take it and check it out guys!

How many times is this going to go around?
Must be the 3rd or 4th time it's been posted (among other tests).

the questionnaire seems a bit simplistic. the abortion question, for example, seems to gauge liberalism (choice) vs. conservatism (no abortion). i voted choice, because i believe that the mother should always be allowed to choose since it is her body. i think that is a simple personal right, and has nothing to do with religious fanaticis... excuse me, american conservatism.

i voted for a death penalty, but i'm not all that conservative. i simply believe that the justice system's foremost duty is to protect the public, and therefore some individuals should be taken out of circulation permanently.

so, like i said, the test is too simplistic, but here are my results anyway:

Anarchy ... requires people to think beyond 2D, realize the world is 3D (literally)

I took the test, wtf, no results for Anarchist?:thefinger
As much as Glenn Beck is called a "right winger," he has successfully pointed out -- repeatedly -- what many scholars on many sides of the fence have also done.

Anarchy is when you run off the end of any axis.

Ironically, it still takes engineers like myself to point out the obvious. The political compass isn't a map. People think in 2D way too much.

The alleged 2D map is actually surface area on a 3D sphere -- whereby two, opposite sides can actually meet on the other side.

In anarchy. ;)

That's why I'm against both pure leftists and rightest, especially when their rhetoric, counter-rhetoric and counter-counter-rhetoric starts to result in an argument that no longer includes the original argument, the original constituents, the real people who are affected.

But a reality that is not reality, and is one of argument for argument's sake. Racism, health care, immigration, etc... Great examples of people who argue outside anything rational, and about things that are not an issue, so the problems only get worse, instead of solved.

I wish this test actually stated what political ideology your choices matched up with, rather then just saying you are "left or right". Those are totally meaningless concepts because there is no universal definition for what leftwing or rightwing means. some people think that left means authoritarian and right means libertarian, some people think it means the opposite. Communism and capitalism are economic politics that can fall into either social politcal system.

Just like "liberal" and "conservative" have different meanings to different people. for instance would repealing all of our laws back to the 1950's or 1770's be liberal or conservative? some people would say it's conservative because it's keeping things the way it was before all these new liberal laws were added. Other would say it was liberal because it's changing the law and conservative would be to keep all the laws that we have now.

anarchism is defined as an anti or non-authoritarian form of government, so no authoritarian system by definition could ever lead to anarchy, other than through it's demise. So is that left or right? conservative or liberal? It's both or neither one depending on your viewpoints.

Replace with Socialist and Capitalist.

The resulting combinations are then variations with tendencies towards the corners of:
- Libertarian-Socialist
- Libertarian-Capitalist
- Totalitarian-Socialist
- Totalitarian-Capitalist
