TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida state prisons are banning porn.
Taking a more proactive stance than Connecticut that recently announced it would not allow inmates to have adult material beginning in June of 2012, Florida’s prison boss Edwin Buss has immediately made porn contraband.

The Florida Department of Corrections issued a memo stating that any inmate found “introducing, possessing or passing pornographic material shall be punished to the maximum extent" of the state's administrative code.

Apparently the action was prompted after Buss was “shocked” to see a Playboy centerfold on the wall in a common area during a field trip to one of the facilities.

Buss’s memo now bans, “material that verbally or pictorially depicts actual or simulated intercourse; masturbation; sadomasochist abuse; lewd exhibition of genitals or contact with unclothed genitals; buttocks, pubic area, or female breasts; acts of sexual battery or simulated sexual battery; and nudity creating the appearing of imminent sexual conduct (e.g., display of aroused sexual organs).”

This isn’t Buss’s first vice “bust.” He recently issued a system-wide ban on smoking in state prisons.

We need to ban a lot more in our prisons. Things like weight lifting, basketball, game rooms, tvs and so on should also be banned. Our correctional facilities are a joke.

Good for florida on this one. These guys are PRISONERS. They broke the law. They deserve nothing.

No shit. These convicts lead a more leisurely life than I do. TV in prison? Porn in prison? Basketball, recreational game rooms, letting them have access to workout/weightlifting equipment (which if you didn't realize makes these convicts stronger)... in PRISON? Are you fucking kidding me?

Does that say "recently?" Are you seriously telling me than until "recently" smoking was a pre-approved activity in prison? So let me get this straight... prisoners are (or at least "used" to be) allowed to smoke in PRISON, but if I live in California, I get a citation for smoking in a public park, or on a sandy beach or for smoking less than 20 feet away from "operable doors and windows?" Does this not rub anyone else the wrong way?

Ask any rational person to give you a list of things that PRISONERS have allowed, approved access to, and I'd be willing to bet that not one of them would list porn, cigarettes, recreational game rooms or television.

Am I wrong for being nearly offended by this?
