Porn More Popular than Religion?

It essentially took me a lifetime (I am middleage) to dump religion and all it's fucking useless guilt.
I believe the explosion of porn and its acceptance is a TYPE of new religion.
At least it's entertaining, you get something from it like a good fucking orgasm, and there is nothing to be ashamed of because its human behavior.
Try prayer on the other hand. Were any of yours ever answered or is it like "talking to yourself" in my opinion.

Porn is not a religion unless it bring some sort of spiritual awakening or awareness. Porn is lots of fun but, from my perspective, most certainly not a religion if you consider those qualifications.

I too have basically totally disavowed my personal connection with any organized religion for sure. They are all corrupt and self-serving. Privately, I guess I would qualify as an agnostic. I really don't care one way or the other and don't really see what difference it would make in the grand scheme of things if I did. I love the teachings of Jesus but they have been perverted over the ages to satisfy private agendas so they basically have no true relevance in today's world (shame....if they did, what a much better place the world would be!). It slays me that the people who claim to be so pious and Christ-oriented are the very first persons that Jesus himself would disavow (remember the money-changers?). Jesus was a liberal and, in essence, a communist if you strip everything else away. It's so ironically humorous to me to see arch-conservatives being such ardent devotees of his teachings (at least when it suits their immediate agendas).

If I were forced to adopt a religion, I'd say Buddhism makes the most sense to me. Otherwise, who cares?

Just being a smartass thats all. Actually I have found that under certian conditions that religion is very helpful. In civillian life not so much, but in combat action its all that some people have. I always carried a picture of my wife and a crufiux with me when I was in Iraq as a reminder of what I was fighting for.

Hey no problem with that pal. If it brings comfort and peace of mind to you, that's a good thing. I also believe that prayer can be very helpful....not for us to ask God for stuff or to give Him His marching orders for the day but only as a means of self-consolation and to send out some positive energy into the world.

I don't begrudge anyone who is religious for the right reasons. I do begrudge those who are for the wrong reasons....and they seem to be in the vast majority as far as I am concerned.

My guilt ...

My guilt is more wrapped up in my not spending enough time and money helping those that don't have as much. Especially my time, because money only goes so far, and doesn't ensure anything. It's much easier to just give them a $20 bill than actually go get them food, pay for their gas at the pump, etc...

That's what makes me guilty.

I don't have any guilt over porn because I don't enjoy exploitative porn. Anyone who wants to lump me in with people who do are misguided and blanket labelling. That's the problem I have with people in general, along with not differing between porn that is exploitive than porn that is not.

God forbid if porn was mainstream, the non-exploitative would be accepted and better regulated, instead of thrown in the same view and issues as the exploitative.

But this has nothing to do with religion. If you are involved with a religion that preaches guilt for things that you should not have guilt for, it's the farthest removed from spirituality. E.g., repenting over the death of Jesus has more to do with how he lived his life, and what you can do for yours and others, than just repenting and "feeling bad."

I hear so many sermons and stories from people that actually contradict the Gospel.
