Pornstar vs. amateur celebrity?

I have woundered this for a couple of years, and I hope that OCSMs, mods and other lovely members could help me with this;

What definds if you are a pornstar (Vicky Vette, Puma Swede, Devon lee and so on) from an amateur celebrity (like Chica and Naugthy Julie)?

As a fan I would say the pornstars are those that are very well known and perform in the bigger production companies movies. I would think it's like mainstream movies, you have people that are "in movies" with maybe a couple speaking parts and then you have the "movie stars".

The answer seems obvious to me. Any person who performs sex, allows the act to be filmed or photgraphed, and accepts money for said act would be a pornstar, but I would say there are two categories of pornstars. Amateur pornstars and professional pornstars. The amateur stars would be ones who are just starting, or are towards the very-low budget end of the porn world.
