Prague, Budapest and ...

Gordar

If FreeOnes was a woman, I'd marry her!
I've been thinking about my vacation for next year and I want to visit a few central or eastern European cities. (I know, I'm early, but time is going so fast these days & I do like to plan such stuff)

Two of the cities I want to visit are Prague and Budapest, but since I'm going on vacation for 14 or 15 days (let's say 15) and since I believe that spending 7 days in each city is a bit too much of a good thing, I want to visit a 3rd city as well.

2 cities that came to mind are St. Petersburg and Bucharest, but I'd like to hear your opinion about what city would be worth visiting (It has to have an airport in the vicinity, as I don't have a car) besides these 2 (or if it's one of these 2 it's also okay) and how much time to spend in each.

TIA for the info.

We will be full of patience Mr Freeones!
If you haven't yet been there, you can't go wrong spending a few days in Munich. It's always worth a visit!

Can you get a rail pass?

Switzerland would be wonderful.

I highly recommend Sofia (Bulgary)

Hadfn't thought of that one yet, thanks!

I think it's better to visit Munich in October with a bunch of firends, like AFA already said. But thanks for the idea!

Vienna... Athens... VENEZIA (Venice) is my favourite city in the entire world... Istanbul... any of the Italian cities (Milano, Torino, Firenze, Siena, Pisa, Roma, Napoli)... Marseille... Paris, but I'm sure you've been... these are all absolute essentials and unmissable, I would pick one of them, but I've never been to St. Pete and Bucharest, they are probably wonderful too.

Vienna... hmm... once again, good idea, Like Sofia, I hadn't thought of that one.

Athens... probably will visit it in the future, but not yet.

The Italian cities (including Venice)... I don't know, but I've always had a feeling that those cities would best be visited with other people.

Marseille & Paris... I've always said to myself that I'll save France for when I'm retired, since it's so close to home (I live less than 10 km from the Belgian border. If I wanted to visit Paris I'd go to Rotterdam, get on the Thalys & be there in 3 hours).

I've lived in Switzerland for 4 years (& I agree, it's a great country. I still want to go back to Geneva when it's Christmas).

I've wanted to go a long time to the Interlaken region, Gimmelwald, Murren, etc. Quite a good trek from here.

It makes sense... it's never somewhere I wanted desperately to go, but on the way from Budapest to Prague, I visited Vienna, and I was amazed. I actually loved it more than Prague and Budapest, partly because it was the height of summer and I think Prague in particular is better in winter, autumn or spring.

Vienna is a gem, and I love it. It is also completely, totally different to both Prague and Budapest. I recommend it highly.

Plus it makes sense because it is very close to the two other cities you're visiting, and so limits your travel time.

I'll visit Vienna in three weeks, really looking forward to it!

tartanterrier

Is somewhere outhere.
I'm going to Rotterdam in March. When I've been to Holland it's always been Amsterdam/Den Haag and Utrecht and down in the Sluis/Breskens area.

I can't wait to get there as i'm sure i'll find loads of record shops selling techno music.

Does anyone know where the best ones are :dunno:

Well, what you could ask about is. If they are still around? Find if they have a cruise ship and take it from there spend about a Two months about a week in a half on the Sea spend a month on the Ilsand and another week in a half to get to back which, they may not have available anymore since a lot of organizations are being out of bussiness and good people were ripped off at the stock market exchange. It still wouldn't hurt to ask about it.

I think it's pretty safe to say that Gordy's already gone and come back from his vacation, given that this thread's 2 1/2 years old. :hatsoff:

Well no, I had a financial setback and never went. I'm still planning to though, but I no longer need any help deciding where to go. :D
