Yes, I bribed and cheated to get this far
Most everyone associates Reagan with ending of the Cold War......and a renewed America after the horrible '70s.

The problem is not the AMT. The problem is that it hasn't been adjusted to keep up with inflatiion and higher incomes. The AMT worked as it should back in the day.

So who was the idiot that decided all american nationals have to file tax forms even though they haven't earned a dollar on US soil for the past 365 days or more?

1. Stagflation
2. Higher taxes for the middle class
3. Gas rationing
4. Oil wellhead price controls.
5. Profits tax imposed on producers of domestic oil
6. Synthetic Fuels Corporation fiasco
7. Control of oil and natural gas prices
8. Creamy malaise goodness

emceeeee the history books only reinforce my view of Reagan. Most everyone associates Reagan with ending of the Cold War......and a renewed America after the horrible '70s.

Taxes on the middle class did not increase under Carter. We had odd/even rationing for gas (and I'm not sure that was national)' but not rationing like in Ww2. Nixon was the one who imposed wage and price controls. The problem with the synthetic fuels was that it wasn't followed up on (blame Reagan for that). And, btw, Carter had a better record for creating jobs than Reagan.

Is anybody here going to be affected by the AMT? No...Therefore, don't worry about it.

As it only will affect those of you in the higher income levels and then you have to itemize deductions on a United States tax return and have to add back the "preference items," such as medical expenses, taxes paid, outside mortgage interest (interest not on your main home, but interest paid on a vacation place, such as a time share,) unreimbursed business expenses subject, of course, to the two percent AGI limitation and post 1986 depreciation.

Reagan didn't have to worry about the AMT and the effect it had on middle class families. He was too busy giving tax breaks to millionaires and corporations. What a fucking tool he was to Wall Street.

And it will never go away.. because it is too much of a revenue "booster" to the Internal Revenue Service, and the Treasury Department, especially in states where high property taxes exist.
