So lets say someone broke into your house and is carrying a weapon (knife, gun etc) and you feel your life is threatened.
In your country/state is it ok to hold them at gunpoint or if the situation really escalates wound them (NOT kill them)?

Just wondering cause I saw an episode of SVU and the situation came up.

Of course, I do own an illegal knife and I won't hesitate to stick it through the eye of anyone who breaks in.

I think its the same here, he breaks into your home with intent to steal or generally harm you. You fight back and he gets pampered with care and you get shafted with lawsuits and prison time.

In the ideal world anything you do should be nice and legal.

As I am entirely incapable of levelling a gun at any human and pulling the trigger, I'll never be in this situation. I don't think anyone should have guns.

Having said that, if someone is in your house, and you shoot said person to defend yourself, you should not be prosecuted. That's just silly.

I know people have been prosecuted before in some really left-wing states, but if your state has the Castle Doctrine you can do certain things free from any real significant issues. I believe the minimum force rule applies here in Canadia ... you can defend yourself, but only using the minimum force necessary to either neutralize the threat or get away.

Regardless, the cops would probably still charge you and let the courts work it out.

i used to say that too, so have a lot of dead people.


where i'm at its also illegal for citizens to have firearms.
so only the criminals have them.if they break into your house you are defenseless.

how any country or state can tell people they cant protect their life, family and property makes me sick.

in germany you have to help the thief to get your things out of the house just kidding we cannot use guns but if i could i would not hessitate to blow his lights out. im a sniper with the g36 he would not come close but will never happen because of our "perfect" law. just hope that if it happens my dog will distract him while i get my kitchen knife. than its gonna be brutus all over him

Here if you defend yourself and he gets hurt he sues you. That means even if your not home and your dog say bites him or the idiot falls and hurts himself he can sue you. It has happened that they have ordered the dog put to sleep because it is obviously violent and should be allowed to live because it was protecting its owners house.
